Telkom Activist Group and Website Startup

Well its my *personal opinion* that this continuous, mindless mud slinging at Telkom is highly unconstructive, and just basically an immature and highly misinformed approach.

As predicted, here is the first defence that rests on "but its my opinion". Like I said earlier, negative opinions are highly destructive.

Karnaugh, what you are saying doesn't quite make sense. Some one says "lets start and action group" and you respond by calling it 'mindless mudslinging...immature and [a] highly misinformed approach' - How can you say this when you haven't seen the constitution, mission statement or programme of action of such a group (because it doesnt yet exist)?

Debbie2 ignore him. He was raving about the Hellkom site until i said quite politely, that I would prefer to host the hellkom site with someone else instead of with him.. since then his attitude has been one of indifference.

Anyway, back to the topic of the thread, enough feeding of the trolls.

PAN - I'm with you - but with one condition - REGIONALIZE. This is a democracy, in order to flex your community's muscle, you have to gather people from the same community (i.e. Minicipal Area).

When you have say 10000 people from one municipality all toghether, the governmint MUST pay attention to you. THIS IS DEMOCRACY. LOCALIIIIZE.

dont any of you see THAT DOESNT WORK
lets get serious huh?

Thank goodness ghandi didnt think like you, and I suppose that what makes him a noble prize winner, and you....well... you.

This country was pulled out of a facist grip by peaceful demonsitrations. If we can educate enough people then it will start becoming an larger political issue, and gain more media attention.

To the rest of you. Thanks for the support. There are a couple of us working on the site look at the moment. It will be up and running in a short time.

Have a look at the logo`s we are currently looking on. We want something we can brand easly. (also, if you want to make a stencil and have a can of spray paint around.... instant shirts etc :)

Please note: Anyone who has a shirt print facilities, and would like to assist us with sponsered branded shirts please email me at [email protected]

No Jozi here dude, however, I would nominate you for Western Cape Group Leader when the sites up in a couple of days. Thats if you can deal with it with telkom on your ass.

Were getting good ideas. Like I just got one now suggesting a streaming audio radio station. We can do live online interviews etc.

No, it was a cynical stab at your former comment.

So to be a part of MyADSL I have to jump on the exact same bandwagon and agree with everything? The very fact that any time someone tries to make any kind of reference about diverting attention from Telkom gets completely slapped down and flamed every which way makes me feel that MyADSL really is just about insulting Telkom - and everyone who feels different should keep quiet and not comment.

Well, excuse me. That kind of ignorant finger in the ears chanting "Na Na Na Na Na" really doesn't deserve much respect *in my opinion*

use a wiki engine

I noticed that you are using Mambo. To guarantee maximum involvement from community members, use a Wiki system, such as Tiki Wiki. That way, everyone can contribute... thus create a massive knowledge base on Telkom.

As for me helping, I used to work for Telkom. My knowledge of the inner workings of the company is at your disposal. I am also willing to write stuff pointing out how ****ty Telkom's policies really are.

Kei, here's a suggestion: try and find out about their unconfirmed policy from 01 August regarding capped services for both local and international, subject to further charges based on either time or capacity for continued access - see the other thread about this...

okay, I am onto it. Will make some phone calls after lunchtime.

Les hope Steven "twit" White was on drugs or somthing.

Karnaugh: luckily your opinion doesnt matter to us. Tell you what, you just keep sitting there, and the rest of us will stand up for YOUR rights....mmmmkay?

Oh please.....a few comments here.

Why not slate telkom? They after all have set the pace and the face of broadband delivery in SA for ALL providers - we are ALL in their stranglehold, ISP's, Other Telecoms companies, Government, ICASA, you me. All fuc't over by the same crowd. Enough is enough and I say start with the devil you know. Telkom have a public face and we should SLAP IT HARD AND OFTEN, publicly. For every rant we post about telkom, post it as a "this is what I have done today" by making the post a copy of what you sent to your local MP, your local Telkom office, press, TV etc. SPAM the cr@p out of whomever we have to to make our battle even more public. EVERY ADSL/DSL subscriber should use MyADSL as an everyday reference tool - that should be one of our objectives. Kei, any chance you can "borrow" a full subscriber list from your former buddies?

Secondly, there is a massive amount of data/discussion about nothing to do with Telkom activism on this forum. I personally am trying to motivate key forumees into a lobby group to lobby GOVERNMENT to deregulate the industry (or die - sad truth).

Lastly, one voice in the wilderness is like pissing into the wind, but collectively our voice here on this forum is a formidable tool/weapon (depending on how it is used). We should have a section where active campaigns are posted to by active campaigners and read daily by the rest of us so that we are all informed on exactly WHAT it is we are doing, WHERE we are doing it, HOW we can all contribute and see real and practical progress.

I am standing up and being counted. Telkom can try and sue me; they will find themselves in constitutional court faster than they can say "profit".

"We live in a country that is alive with possibility" says our president. Well, there’s a distinct possibility that this country woman is going to address our president in his own council on deregulation of our telecoms industry or suffer the international humiliation we deserve if we don’t get our **** in a pile and fast.

As for the negativity out there, that is your right. Just please use your opinion wisely and don’t de-motivate those who are prepared to overlook the obvious to achieve the impossible. It does work. It just takes b@lls. Ask Madiba. His are brass. So are mine

I have phoned my contact. He was very pissed off that I woke him up (he works night shift) but anyway I'll have the answers later today.

So far, just to let you know. Im listening. Were busy setting up a wiki. Also we are thinking of structuring the public forum by reigion, but as well as having a national one fo national events.

Any more suggestions?

I've tried in the past, that information is very privileged.
