Look out for a magazine ad for Telkom Broadband and lay a complaint to the ASA about it.
It shows a picture of a home with five people inside all doing various things on adsl.
1. Andre downloading 'The Matrix'.
2. Stuart racing online to somebody in Sao Paolo
3. Dad online banking.
4. Mom buying books in UK.
5. Caroline on phone to boyfriend.

All this on 512Kb adsl.

My complaint is that with Andre downloading a movie, they would exceed 3Gb's and would be switched off. Stuart would be kicked from the game because his ping would be 600msecs even without Andre pulling all the bandwidth. Mom and Dad would be bitching that the internet was really slow tonight, because Andre was pulling all the bandwidth, so Mom would cancel. Dad would give up doing the banking and on walking through the house would catch Caroline on the phone. Scream at her for using the phone, local call charges to high and reduce her to tears.
With the slow, restricted, shaped and expensive adsl Telkoms supplies, there is no way that we can do all those things. Yes we would like to but until Telkom shapes up, why should they be allowed to advertise such rubbish?

Yeah...

as a matter of interest... skype works better on dial-up from my side for some reason... possibly because of bandwidth throttling? So much for broadband. The product should be relabled as a pop3, smtp and port 80 service.

I am also busy drafting a complaint to this ad. The thread is here. I want to publicise this complaint as much as possible, and have therefore taken the time to clearly outline the issues and to try to make them as understandable by the "everyman" as possible. I hope to get this complaint published in the media.
