Hi,

Thought it would be appropriate to get some comment here.
I currently have Telkom Uncapped ADSL service that I pay R579 per month.
The area that I am in is currently having issues with the Vodacom network and thus I opted to acquire Telkom's service.
I do not download anything at home as I do so at work (we have an open network from 11:30am to 1:30pm and we are allowed to download appropriate content and update smartphone apps).
This leave me with a question as to whether or not there is a cheaper alternative to utilise at home for just receiving whatsapp messages and to merely browse the internet.

Any suggestions on an alternate service provider for less that R300 per month? Would there be any upfront installation fees?

If all you do is whatsapp on wifi and browse the net. Then that option should be no problem for you.

If you have CellC coverage then why not get the 100GB CellC bundle for 999 which is valid for 12 months.

Firstly, if you only need a few GB's per month, you should be able to get free 1GB accounts from Vox, Afrihost, Axxess, Gridhost & Web Africa - note that most (if not all, these days) will require you to give them credit card details, though you will/should not be charged a cent.

Thereafter, if you require more bandwidth, you can look at their capped data packages - have a look at Telkom's as well to compare - for example :

https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/fat-pipe-lite

https://www.voxtelecom.co.za/fatpipe

Scroll down the page to see pricing - eg. 10GB = R29 / month
http://www.afrihost.com/site/product/adsl_capped

Axxess have very similar pricing to Afrihost (they're sister-co's) -
https://www.axxess.co.za/dsl/capped
6GB = R19
10GB = R29 etc.
.. you can also get prepaid from them on the website - 3GB for R27 ; 20GB for R180.

Don't know how your Telkom a/c is broken down, but sure with prices like these, if you scrap the uncapped portion, I'm sure with one of these above, you should save quite a lot each month !?

EDIT : after this length of time since your post, you've probably organised something already - just in case :sick:
