Good news, Telkom recently informed me that my line fault has been restored.

I called them about a month ago to complain about the noise on my line and the slow unreliable connection I had.

I have now reported my line 3 times in the last month (not to mention the other 13 times last year).

As a reward, my line speed had gone from 3.8 Mb to 192k.

Telkom as assured me that my line is now restored. Can anyone please offer an un-biast opinion?

My router tells me the following:

Downstream Upstream
Hlin Scale 18423 455
Loop Attenuation(dB) 63.5 41.0
Signal Attenuation(dB) 63.5 41.0
SNR Margin(dB) 6.5 6.0
Attainable Rate(Kbps) 192 568
Output Power(dBm) 7.0 12.4

I am on the Crowthorne exchange (RCWE02) in midrand (011 468) and they offer 8 Mb connections.

The above stats seems to indicate a 192k connection is that the same as 8Mb? Cause instead of feeling faster, it feels really slow now, despite telkom saying that my fault has been resolved.

I have reference and escalations numbers, but no one seems to be interested in these numbers.

Oh and by the way, I don't need to go to the sea for a holiday, I just need to pick up the receiver of my phone to hear the waves of the ocean crashing... Quite a nifty feature. Thanks Telkom.

When I complained about my line last year they just dropped the max sync speed. Call them and tell them to remove the limit. I'll rather live with a dodgy 2.5 Mbps line than 1 Mbps and being charged for a 4 Mbps line. 1 Mbps is too slow for me.

Well MickeyD.... if I am being screwed as you suggest, I would at least expect a kiss.

Else it looks more like rape! I never consented....
