Hi

So has any one of you been upgraded yet?

I called Telkom this morning and they advised me that the upgrades will be automatically today when a technician has been dispatched to do it. This time we will not need a resynch or port reset to see the results.

He also told me that the ISP portion will not be automatically upgraded and after my 2mbs turns into a 4mbs line I must call in and ask that my 2mbs uncapped account be changed to a 4mbs uncapped account.

Any updated on your guys side?

Nope nothing yet :-(. I'm currently on a 2mbps line.

Nothing here but then again my exchange can only handle 4Meg and I'm already on a 4.

Hi

...

My concern with that statement is that you will be upgraded to a more expensive package.

I asked him about it as I had the same concern but he told me that I will be charged on the new 4mbs uncapped price.

After upgrades are done I will confirm again before changing.

So, by that logic, if you weren't to call and upgrade, they'll keep you on your current speed and charge less?

Remember that there are two separate processes here:

1. Telkom (wholesale and networks) will increase all ADSL users (except 10Mbps and up) to the next higher profile (line speed). This starts on 11 November.

2. ISPs (including Telkom ISP) migrate their customers to their new profiles.

So calling your ISP now will get you nowhere...

At the same time? :-D

No, in batches

Yep. First the current 4Mbps users, then the current 2Mbos users and lastly the 1Mbps users.
Within those batches it will be done per region, eg. Gauteng first, then Northern, Western, etc.

Sorry I thought that the upgrades will commence today on the 6th and not the 11th.

But I do wonder why did the guy confirm that they are starting today. . .

Maybe the back end work will start today, preparing them for the actual change over....? :whistling:

Could be why some people are having erratic speeds here an there:erm:

This is my result but my speed and ping is currently & has been the whole day a nightmare. Maybe I should go to bed early tonight. Sick and tired of images loading like in the 90's.
