Telkom ADSL users coughing up

No surprises there!! It seems to me that the visitors of this forum are the only people that give a damn. I doubt your royal Ivyness has ever visited any of the forums, actually that there was a silly thing to assume that she even knows how to use a PC, let alone visit a web site that challenges her very thinking.

Why Bother

Telkom the connection machine is such a piece of s!@t, I actually sick of talking, even thinking about it. We don't need those scum bags at all, they're just holding every one back. I unfortunately signed a contract what a crock, dont sign a contract. I will be moving to wireless in 3 months when this contact is up & will cancel this stupid land line aswell.

Mr Wally Beelders of Telkom said in February 2006 that the cost of ADSL will come down in the the next 9 to 18 months because consumers see the service as very expensive.

This means that they don't use economics of scale (like they have said) but Telkom rather only decrease prices when the need for new ADSL connections dies down.

It used to be fun to read these kinds of articles, but now they're just repeating the same old stuff that we already know. Twisting the knife deeper.

Come on guys look on the positive side, Because of the cost of my ADSL line,

I cant buy all the food I used to buy every month, So in effect I am losing weight and eating less.
I can also not afford to drink any alcohol anymore so I am now completely sober.
Luckily there is usually crap on TV at night, and since my ADSL line disconnects when ever the wind blows, it rains, or somebody breathes on the line, I am now getting to bed much earlier.
I now recycle all my old cans and plastic to try pay for my ADSL line, and the country is now cleaner because of this.
I dont water my Garden or fill up the pool (ok its now a sand pit), again to save money and I am also saving water for the whole country.

In effect I am now leaner, meaner and more equiped to do my job in the mornings when I get to work, the fact that I cant work because my ADSL doesn't work is not of any concern because I can now gaze at the clean countryside through my office window...

Telkom is in fact helping the WHOLE country and doing us all a big favour by taking all our money. We should be grateful and not look a gift horse in the mouth

/Sarcasm off

LOL, nice one!

:-)

9 to 18 months before price decrease? How will Telkom explain this when they want to get 8% of people in the townships on ADSL by next year? Or 15% by 2008?
(Telkom's figures)

8% by next year! When they have only 1 (one) ADSL line in Soweto?
With a backlog of 14 months?

Who are they kidding? Telkom is going down. Watch government keep on protecting them as Telkom keeps extorting money from us.

Then listen to them complain about high telecom costs and not enouh people investing in SA.

Same old story going on and on for years to come. :(

Nothing will ever change I fear :(

Not going to drop prices, huh Telkom?

Let's look at IPTV

Well, then let's say R680 'ADSL line rental' *gag* for a 1Mbps line, multiply by 3 for 4Mbps line required for IPTV = R2040 line rental a month... capped at 30GB locally = 1 Hour TV / day

2 Grand for an hour of TV a day.. with content approved by government and Telkom?

Go sniff some more glue Telkom...

...1 Mbps connection is only 14 euros which is just over R 100-00.

Yep, that seems about right. Exactly what one should be paying in this country according to global trends. But, alas.......TELKOM!

The demise of telkom may not be very soon, but I think it is very sure. The only "service" that they provide is the infrastructure. They are planning other services eg IPTV etc, but they will not get it right for the exact reason that they are not getting it right now, namely Greed and Shocking Service caused by utter incompetance. Their greed and incompetance are not going to disappear and therefore telkom will be left behind the rest of the market and become an infrastructure provider only and then from there they will die, because everyone is talking about how the traditional telephone companies have to transform themselves to survive. It will be impossible for them to survive with their current attitude and state of mind.
