Are there additional hardware requirements to use the VOIP features of the Telkom B315s or does the router do it all-in-one?

Good question. I never configured SIP server and use ordinary Telkom phone to receive GSM calls. It was believed that RJ11 socket is only for cellular calls (CS network services). However in document "HUAWEI B315s-936 LTE CPE V200R001 Product Description" it says in two places:

Compatibility with RJ11 telephone ports; can be set to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) or Circuit Switch (CS) voice mode
[...]
Voice service (Alternatively)
VoIP voice:
- SIP voice services
- G.722/G.711a/G.711u/G.729/G.726 encoding and decoding
CS voice:
- CS voice services over UMTS/GSM networks
- CSFB
Presence of standard SIP codecs confirms that analog connector (RJ11) is used for SIP. Question is: Where is a switch between CS voice and SIP? I can't see. :(

The VoIP in this router is a total joke. I got a sip account from Nexus ISP and wanted to run it with the router on my Telkom LTE solution. I tried everything. It worked but as soon as the calls get connected it dropped the calls. Then it stopped working completely after that.....

Will try it out again but it is very confusing to set it up because it wants a sip server and sip proxy and both are mandatory fields and can't be the same.... WTF

I also just purchased this router (Huawei B315s LTE) on the Telkom LTE uncapped plan and I'm looking at connecting it to a VoIP phone via the port on the router. Are there any special settings I will need to make to have priority given to the VoIP connection?

I'm looking at using Switch Telecom for the VoIP service @ R49.00 p/m (call rates seem good). Is there maybe a more affordable service provider with a good quality service?

@cavedog, @sajunky, : Did you manage to sort out your issues as I fear I may run into a similar problems as well?

I got one dropped call after one hour on the line. The same problem, suddenly it stopped ringing, but I can still make SIP calls from analog phone. Ringer circuit blown? Can't verify without opening router.

It requires proxy server filled up, but it can be the same as registration server. I think description note has something to do with local proxy server on the LAN, or on the router itself, but this feature is not implemented. I verified, router do not act as a proxy server for LAN clients. Router's SIP settings applies only to the analog phone line.

Any(?) Voip phone has Ethernet port, you plug it to the router like any other LAN device. Enable SIP ALG on the router and configure VoIP phone according to the guidelines on the SIP server Website. Rouer's VoIP settings only applies to the analog phone.

In the case you plug analog phone, dialing preferences options become available after SIP server is configured on the router.

Free SIP server is on MWEB, you can start with.

Is anybody using the B315 successfully with switchtel VOIP? Thinking of upgrading my router and dropping my Linksys ATA.

Well the latest firmware on the B315 works VERY well with Voip actually. I used Mweb Talk, Nexus and now using Greydot and it works well.

HI

How did you get it to work with Mweb Talk?, mine just show registering and never registers.

You can use any. I use https://www.discountvoip.co.uk just because it offers super cheap calls. If you want a local provider that offers a free incoming local number you can use Mweb Talk or Freshphone.

When you use the build in VOIP of the router you just need a normal telephone that you would use to plug in with a Telkom line. I'm using a cheap cordless phone I got for free from telkom when I still had my landline.
