I asked them to test adsl lines at our office.

Since we are 5km out of town we would like to see the line SNR and Attenuation, here is their reply:

No they say, we have to sign up for adsl first then they can test it, because it must be "activated" on their side you see????

Try to spot the f***up..

SO order it. Self install. You dont pay until everything is up and running. If its not gonna work, you'll soon get feedback during the process.

SNR and ATTn can only be read through a DSL activated port on the exchange line, which is not default port connect for every Exchange line, hence the request for SIO activation. If you are 5 Kms, many other characterisitcs can affect the service. Copper age, quality, number of joints and other conditions will affect service, ideally a 5 km line can only support speeds of Dsl 384k, will be lucky if new network for speeds upto to 2 meg.

People always expect the worse of Telkom. Even to the point where a perfectly good reason is thought of as bad service.
