Telkom being sabotaged.

Line was stable on over the weekend, temporary service still in effect, but at least it's stable and I have a working adsl connection and telephone line for now.

Waiting to see what next the vandals target.

There are local companies making a living out of providing such monitoring equipment and services on the exchange side. Clearly it's not rolled out everywhere, but it's happening....

Well lo and behold my call has mysteriously disappeared.

I was so frustrated , that I told the consultant, I pray someone bombs the building you lot are in and you all die a gruesome death by fire. I put down the phone.

I am currently on another call again. So let's see what can be done now.

Evidently someone doesn't like Telscum. Maybe it's a rogue Neosmell agent... :D

An engineer friend of mine who worked at Telkom resigned about two months ago and told me that they recently dropped the bag on 19000 techies and other personnel, reason being that they are now outsourcing their contracts and jobs and stuff...

well, guess what me down again, just in time for the weekend, what to do ??

I can't believe you have so much problems with your line? Seriously just put some steel wire around your line and link it with an Eskom line!
Boom! Problem gone and cooked :D

If it isnt the line itself, it's telkoms know nothing techs buggering around at the exchange.

Because they have repaired the cables, but i don't know what they have done at the exchange, as soon as my adsl modem powers down and restarts, it fails to sync.

It is not the modem, but something one of the numpties has done at the exchange.

Line up again, sync's perfectly with modem - will have to wait and see how long the peace lasts.

Well, normal service resumed, just back from some bundu bashing searchng after the scoundrels. They cut the cables again. This time we managed to disturb them, picked up about a meter length that they have discarded.

I belive we might have encountered them on foot, but seen as we were uncertain, we followed them, but after a while had to give up the pursuit.

I will now make certain that I am more visible where last I seen them, so I can track them down.

Also planning to go see the local [-] numtpies [/-] I meant cops tomorrow, to let them know when we call that we need some speedy response from them.

Oh well, they passed me by and cut from the neighbours side, so my line is still up at least, except I have the remainder of his cable trailing in my yard.

Dunno, if they will attempt to come back for the rest of the cable ?

Anyways goodnight.

Sorry for us. We finally had to dig trenches, and supplied our own cables for a 300 m section to the exchange, which telkom then connected up for us, But they wont ever replace the cable again. If it gets stolen, its our responsibility.

Do they charge you rent for your own line?

This is Telkom.. What do you think :D

Of course they do, But its great to have lines again. Touch wood though. They have been up and stable ever since we put them in. Its going to be a real problem if they try and steal them though since we concreted everything in.

If Telkom actually had something called "service" and maybe even some upgrading or planning or brains... They could do so much with SA but in stead they will let their clients pay a fortune for nothing... They make millions for nothings... A infrastructure is long over due but they'll rather spend that money on salaries (only management) and leave SA alone...

Who's got their own money so we can setup a small company, heheh...

Epic res

Over the weekend of 18/19 Oct 2008 , we had massive thunderstorms and promptly thereafter my telephone line was out of order and my adsl connection deteriorated to such an extent that I lose synch after 5-10 minutes.

On Monday 20/10/2008 I attempted to log a call for this line, but fortunately it was working ok for a bit again.

Only to encounter that on Tuesday 21/10/2008 the fault had manifested itself again.

So on 22/10/2008 I logged an official fault with Telkom.

a few days later I followed up with Telkom regarding this. Only to be informed by the consultant that the line in the area has been stolen.

Incredulously I countered how this would be possible, seen as I have a semblance of an adsl connection and the other line on my property was working fine without any hassle.

Also the lines of most of my neighbours in the area was also working perfectly. Mine was the only exception of course.

The consultant indicated that she will raise this matter and have them call me back.

After failing to receive any response I called back a few days later. The new consultant now informed me that they have a problem with a damaged cable, which might be understandable for me. So I was appeased for the moment.

This morning I decided to follow up yet again to see what the progress with regards to the repairs on this damaged cable.

Imagine my surprise when the old line of the cable being stolen was trotted out. To further spice it up - an added twist to this Telkom has now decided after the 104 recorded occasions of cable theft in the area to no longer replace the stolen cable.

I of course let the consultant face the full wrath of an incredulous client - asking her the self same probing questions if there's no cable

* why then do I have an intermittent connection.

* why is the other line on my property still functional and why is the lines of my neighbours working.

I explained to them my concern that my fault was lumped with a bulk fault in the area simply because some lazy moffo of an underpaid and inept techie was not willing to work.

I demanded that aforesaid lazy moffo come out to my residence and take me to the scene of the cable theft, so I can view it myself.

I was hastily put through to a Manager in the call centre who agreed(largely to appease me I believe - but he won't shake me that easily) that he has the same suspicions as I have seen as the other lines in the area are still functional.

He has undertaken to do a follow up and report it to the higher ups and I will get a response soon then.

Imagine me losing my adsl line, because some lazy git found a loophole to avoid actually having to work.

Anyone out there know how much it would cost to dig up street and lay about 50m of fibre, so I can get it from my house to the exchange ?
