Telkom being sued by everyone

Part of me is glad that Telkom are getting bashed from all sides, on the other hand I'd far rather they were doing well and providing us all with a reasonably priced and effective service. It seems like a lose lose.
 
Instead of suing Telkom, they should rather sue the high ranked individuals who were involved.

Telkom has a lot more money than those individuals - for now that is :p
 
Sadly, the only way for everyone to catch a wake up is for Telkom and this kind of practice to fail dismally, and plunge the country into turmoil.

Nobody really wants that, but the sooner it happens the better. That's just my opinion.

And now the folks who made those mistakes are all gone... the head of procurement took a voluntary package in July and buggered off!

I agree.

However just look at the huge dividends Telkom Shareholders have earned in the last decade and it shows you where their priorities are. Shareholder value.

Although there is nothing wrong with creating shareholder value in any listed Company, there is a big problem when the Company in question was a Public Utility before listing providing services for the country and paid for by those citizens. Imagine if Eskom was sold and listed tomorrow and those shareholders earmarked the profits for dividend payments instead of upgrading the grid so that in the end we are paying more for a sub standard service with disconnections.

There are so many examples you could use that fit the bill, but in the end the way Telkom was privatised was a travesty and an injustice to the citizens of South Africa. And now they are reaping what they sowed with everyone and the kitchen sink wanting to sue them for holding us back. Such a pity, such a waste of what was a great asset and I suppose still is in a way, but with the shareholders in the background always wanting more payouts I foresee the new CEO having a very tough job of it all.

Technology overtook them. They took us (the public) for granted that we would simply continue to buy their outdated products at their prices and be happy.
Telkom instead fell behind, rather paid out their shareholders the much needed potential development capital in the way of dividends or wasted it in Nigeria with Multi Links or locally with Telkom Media. The list is long on wasted money. Now the knives are out for them because people know they have money to burn and are suing for some of it, most I suppose with good reason and cause.

Such a pity, such a waste. That is why I will never trust Government to privatise anything every again.

This, more than anything else, is the issue. Everything else revolves around and emanates from it.
 
EVERY dog has its day. I would like to thank Telkom for bum****ing me over the past decade, and wish them all the best now that its their turn.
 
The problem bleh69 is that it is literally water off a ducks back with these guys as the legal entity known as Telkom as opposed to you as a living and breathing person.
 
Years & years of bad management, piss-poor planning & decision making, pathetic service delivery & corruption are now starting to take its toll.*

Unfortunately they roasted their cash cow, Vodacom, on the spit. Strap yourselves in, its gonna be a bumpy ride.

*I just realised that also sums up most government departments & Eksdom.
