OK, just got last months Telkom bill. They included, yet again, an ad for ADSL. Some things of interest:

Music, movies, fashion, interaction... everything in the universe... is coming at you as fast as you want it, through the internet which is powered by broadband. Are you ready for it?

Hmmm, music, movies... This isnt refering to downloading movies and music, right? Because then somebody might have lied to us...

Also:

A sphere of limitless possibilities, all founded on boundless connectivity.

Boundless? To me that indicates no restrictions. Maybe my english is crap, but thats what is sounds like at least.

Anyone else get this thing?

their marketing department must be based in any of the countries which puts SA to shame with regards to broadband.

Or maybe they read the wrong brief?

This is so pathetic. Does Telscum have no shame!

They seem to have produced this ad based on what was complained about at the ICASA hearing. Took the mojor gripes that we have with them and turned it into an ad. Maybe it's time to contact the "Fair Advertising Board", or whatever their name is - can't remember now.

where we going to download Movies/Music from Telkom :P
How can we do warez, are telkom going to let us download the stuff, what False advertising. I've to say!!! 0

Number 1
are Telkom going to give you the source where to download movies, music etc.
I guess Not!!

The ASA should clamp down on this nonsense advertising and make them add a clause protecting the consumer as to what the Cap does to a broadband connection and not in fine print either.
Once capped you can only browse locally and download email only! And as most websites are hosted overseas due to the high costs of Telkom, local content is a bit limited.

Define: Boundless.
seemingly boundless in amount, number, degree, or especially extent; "unbounded enthusiasm"; "children with boundless energy"; "a limitless supply of money"

Telkom always lie, they called me up to Apply for new services, like voice mail etc. They also did an upgrade on there Voice Mail system recently when i last called my voice mail server.

Loads of company have False Advertising just to get clients.

Geez, it seems you guys see the same stuff i do. Hmmm, ok, who do we send it to? Cause i felt like crying, laughing, swearing and punching someone in the face while i was reading this crap. Is this grounds for a court case based on false advertising?

Well like i say, if telkom had like portal to download music etc, then yeah but there is no port mirror on there site where u can download music. one isp allows u to download music from there site and other stuff but telkom just want to get Stupid clients sign up for adsl and we'll let u download movies, dam what a lie.

OK, if you check in MS Word, synonyms for boundless are:

unlimited, endless, limitless, infinite, ceaseless, never-ending, illimitable, vast

None of those describe Telkom ADSL. Bad choice of word then? Or deliberate bait to lure unwary clients into ordering something which is NOT boundless?

I hate receiving the home tele acc

I got mine today - I must say that this is one of the monthly accounts I hate receiving!! I check the home post box every day after the 14th of the month, because if pops gets hold of the bill and sees it - ill be sure to be chucked out the house!!
Gotta sweet talk ma to pay it!!!

But now that I got DSL I hope its going to be lower !!

"Dear Tlkm
We love you,

Regards
The Devil"

Any complaints you may have can be submitted to ASASA (advetising standards authority of SA). As a consumer making a complaint will not cost you anything.
You can do this via the asasa website www.asasa.org.za

However, The most Asasa can do, is to tell telkom to remove their advert in its current format.

it might be worth it just to waste some of telskums time.

Take the whole advertising dept of Telscum, put them in a room with 1 ADSL acc and see how much movies they can d/load be4 the connection is down to a crawl .... or wait - make it easier, just sue the incompetent bunch for false advertising !!

Hang on a sec... Nowhere are they claiming that you can DOWNLOAD ANYTHING! Clever use of words to trick people.

They just say "Music, movies, fashion, interaction..." "coming at you as fast as you want it," but they arent saying that you can download it. Maybe they mean that you can READ about music, movies, fashion, interaction because with 3GB your not getting ANYTHING else, just text, email and maybe local IRC.

Telkom - Touch tommorow by selling your liver and kidneys

It would have been gr8 if this advert could have gone to the ICASA hearings. So when the spokesperson for Telkom says not for gaming and huge downloads. You can say "Objection, I wish to point the court to Exhibit A!" On there own adverts.
