Hey Ladies and Gents,

I have a question.
We ordered a Telkom line (Basically Residential Closer Call package 2 ...suppose to be like R175 pm and activated 1meg DSL / Faster DSL on the line...which was like less than the current R299 pm...) on the 14Th of June this year.Around the 21st of June they installed the line and said we would be charged pro rata until the next billing cycle. Please note that this line is only used for internet, and the occasional incoming call.we don't use it to make calls nor has anybody used it to do so...
Im slightly confused as to the costs incurred.

The first invoice came, invoice was dated "04-07-2012" and the amounts are as follows

--------------------------------------
Rental : R724.53
Other : R583.59
Sub Total (excluding) : R1380.12
VAT 14% : R183.14
--------------------------------------
Total(this invoice) : R1491.26
--------------------------------------

So we thought okay cool, pro rata and all that, plus installation...the figure would be slightly higher than the monthly invoice.

This morning i saw i had an online invoice from Telkom...

---------------------------------------
Invoice dated : "23-08-2012"

Rental: R698.46
Adjustment : R0.84 CR
Subtotal (excluding ) : R697.62
VAT 14% : R97.67
--------------------------------------
Total (this invoice) : R795.29
--------------------------------------
Closing balance Amount due : R795.29
R 794.55 will be deducted from your bank on 14 Sep 2012

Now to me this seems a bit off. I'm not the greatest maths whiz in the world but according to telkoms website that i checked whilst typing here,it says the closer call package 2 now costs R185 p/m and an earlier artical on my broadband said that the new tarrifs for Telkom come into effect as of august so their 1Meg line rental will cost R299

If i add those two figures together,it comes to R484...
Now im not concerned with that large amount paid at the beginning, made provisions for such a sum when it was decided to get internet. But this recurring cost is concerning.

I mean 795.29 - 484 = R311.29
So where is this money going? i phoned them, spoke to a lady that knew less than me.I explained the situation to her slowly,at the end,she just sighed and there was silence for like 20 seconds.I hung up the phone, phoned back, spoke to another lady and she said that they have changed my billing cycle and I've been charged pro rata (again?) until the 24Th of September

Could somebody point me in the right direction?where and how would i go about sorting this out?i budgeted for R500 p/m for telkom now its R800 p/m? All i wanted was voice and 1meg line rental

PS I use a different ISP

Thanks alot

Just remember they charge a month in advance ie first bill is always double. Makes sense for them but not you or me.
Did they install or was the internet self install?

Hi guys,
Thanks for the response.Mickza i've done that, this is what i've found there

Period for all below " 04 Aug 12 - 23 Sep 12"

Description

Rental R0.00
Your Telephone Line R214.12
DSL Faster R431.49
Telkom Evening W/Ender Plan R52.85
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total (rental) R698.46
------------------------------------------------------------------

Is that correct?as I've said before, those figures seem a tad high, esp DSL Faster line rental.
I still dont understand this enough to actually approach them and ask them to sort it out.

@NeoNarchy : then that would explain the large sum for the first time paying them(was in july, they did the install though)
but this extra sum of R311.29 spread over voice and dsl line rental is whats confusing me

There's still some pro-rata stuff in there, about 2.5 weeks worth so I'm guessing this bill is about 60% more than what your next account will be for (24 Sep 12 - 23 Oct 12).

Looks like it'll settle down to what you expect :)
