Telkom caps

I have a 3gig cap but was reading up that with telkom isp you get your 3gig cap and then national cap or something to that extent..
how does all of that work and is it just a guessing game after your 3 gigs are over how much more you will get or will you be some how notified?

At the moment your 3gig TI account gets you 6GB download, after which you are cut off from internet access (except you can still reach telkom's webiste, as well as the 4 big banks')
