Telkom chairman: What is needed?

Telkom will eventually be bought by a private company, at a hugely discounted price.

Then they'll get rid of all those senior managers, there will be no government interference and Telkom will become a competitive company.

A new name will be essential, cos just mentioning the word Telkom gets people angry and upset.

Its really the only way to save Telkom.

*I predict that Vodacom or MTN might buy Telkom in the distant future.
 
It's not about the attributes of the chairman, I'm sure there's plenty that have the qualifications/ability/will to achieve it.
The fly in the ointment IMO is government with their insistence to politicize everything.
Telkom will recover when it's being run like a business instead of a government tool.
 
AFAIK the Telkom chairman is not an executive position hence the spotlight falls squarely on the CEO, who is the EXECUTIVE officer appointed by the Board (and currently by the government due to its majority shareholding).

In Telkom's case the fly in the ointment has been the "golden vote" wielded by the chairman who has been appointed by the majority shareholder (the government).

IMHO this will only happen when bandwidth prices revert back to those of 5 years back ;) The investments Telkom made probably used these figures to calculate the returns. SEACOM messed up everything for them.
 
Telkom has long been a cash cow for all those unscrupulous beings (mostly in government) that feel so little for thier fellow countrymen. Sell all the working parts and burn the rest to the ground. Let's stand up and fight them, Avaaz style. It's a diseased and corrupt organisation, through and through, and I cannot see why we should be allowing them to hold us back any longer.

The really sad part is that all that infrastructure was paid for with taxpayers money, so if they sell it, the money will most probably disappear into some guvirmint official's wallet. :sick:
 
All very academic, the ANC has a surplus of Julius Malemas and one of these will crawl out of the woodwork to chair Telkom.

Yeah, they will most probably choose a tendepreneur, cos they are most "ambititious".

We have too MANY monopolies already

Have a look at what is happening in EGYPT

How easy would it be to switch OFF the internet in SA ??????

Telkom wont come cheap.

You need a company that has the cash to buy them, so Vodacom & MTN came to mind quickly. :)

But its not all doom & gloom - a capable CEO can still save them.
 
A brilliant chairperson in conjunction with a clever CEO will definitely save Telkom & South african telecoms in return.
