Ms Borcherds lodged a consumer complaint against internet advertising for Telkom appearing on www.telkom.co.za.
Under the heading “How much will Telkom CLOSER cost?” the advertising states, inter alia, “No activation or installation charges to apply”.
COMPLAINT
In essence, the complainant submitted that the advertisement is misleading as the installation and activation costs are only waived for existing customers, not new ones.

Mr Pearl lodged a consumer complaint against a Telkom brochure that was inserted in his telephone account.
The brochure contains, inter alia, the wording:
• “Cut your company’s phone bill in seconds”
• Average savings of up to 25% on your monthly telephone bill”
• “...it can reduce your telecommunications spend by up to 25%.”
COMPLAINT
In essence, the complainant submitted that the advertisement is misleading because of its ambiguity as, in reality, there may or may not be a saving.
