Telkom copper to fiber

In my area the copper cables are stolen plenty times a year. And it's been happening for a few years now. Every time it is just replaced. I presume it's the same situation at the moment because my lines are down for a few days. And it's really difficult to get an answer from Telkom.

At what stage will Telkom consider replacing the copper with fiber ? Or does this never happen ?

There is an area close to me that has fiber and their fiber goes past my street. They are further from the exchange than I am.

This is just so frustrating.
 
Check the fibre coverage map on OpenServe's site. Otherwise go with a WISP.

I check the coverage map. As mentioned we don't have fibre coverage. Will Telkom at some stage decide to replace the copper with fibre because of the numerous times the cable is stolen every year. Or don't they actually care ?

Which Heidelberg are you in?
 
It is just frustrating. The cable gets stolen so many times a yer for the last few years and they just keep on replacing it. Although they take their time to do it.

Isn't it just logical that it will be better to replace it with fibre than replacing it so many times a year ?

Telkom/Openserve doesnt do logical. They are thickest stupidest *(&#%@*()% idiots there are. Not only have they installed fibre in our suburb they have not connected it or switched it on. Since May last year. In that period of time the cables have been stolen twice.

No no, we must replace the copper. There is perfectly working fibre there but no. We must be #(*@&^$ stupid and continue with copper.

BUT WAIT,THERES MOAR!!!! Now im told telkom is awaiting for a 15% order ratio from people in the suburb before switching on the fibre. But companies like Afrihost and like cant place orders on the fibre because Telkoms site says, "Planning phase"
 
All lines still down and I have burned through my LTE data. No estimate on when the lines will be restored. Very frustrating that I don't even get any feedback on the progress from telkom

Dude you can Get 60 Gigs (30 Gigs Daytime) + 30 Gigs Nighttime Plus 40 GB ( 20 GB Daytime ) + 20 GB Nighttime = R600
you can get it at a Vodacom 4U Store you can get a Huawei B315 from Gumtree for R750 or R800. Telkom 500 GB NightSurfer Data R50

So last week I send a message to Telkom via messenger. This afternoon only they replied advising that they are not going to replace the cables and will be offering LTE / FLLA option. How the **** will they be able to offer me internet on LTE with enough data for a reasonable price. I still have 2Tb of rollover data with Vox and get 300Gb for R159p/m

This is so frustrating and they think they are competent. :mad: :mad:
 
So today I received a call from Telkom advising that they are not replacing the copper cables. They are going to provide a wireless telephone and a B315 router for the internet. I enquired about the ADSL I have with Vox at the moment. The consultant advised me that I can still use my Vox adsl account with the new system.

I'm not to clued up on this or maybe I'm too frustrated to understand. Can some just explain how my current adsl with vox is going to work without a physical copper landline ?

And also it will apparently take 2-3 weeks before they can setup the new system :mad:
