Telkom delays WiMAX rollout

"We'll be starting tests on the new network within the new few weeks," September said.

Telkom chief technology officer Thami Msimango said that part of the reason for the delay was waiting for chipsets that would allow it to move from the fixed version of WiMAX - called 802.16d - to the mobile version - called 802.16e - without having to replace equipment they'd already invested in.
More tests? Waiting for chisets?
The old, old story... Keep the uninformed happy with more disinformation.

WiMAX has been tested thoroughly by much more technologically advanced countries than SA and it's much cheaper to implement, roll out and use than any current comms system in this country.
Maybe that's the reason for the delay... Make another 6.8 billion before slooooooowly putting it to use...
