Telkom Do Broadband Level 3 with Afrihost top up

Excuse the noob question I have just got ADSL now for the first time.

I am looking at Do Level 3 which is a 4MB line with 9GB data for R554 which seems pretty cheap to me. However, if I run out of my 9GB can I use my Afrihost account to top up with more considering that I have an all-in-one package from Telkom?
 
Yes, you can do that.

It would be worth while to have a look at traffic splitting options (see my signature), so that you can use like an Afrihost account for international and your remaining Telkom cap for local (excl Mweb stuff) content.
Nowadays you can get quite a lot on local cap. I'm getting Google, YouTube & Facebook all on local only accounts :D
 
I'm doing something similar, but using route sentry. Use telkom account till international is capped then get axxess adsl lite, R19 for 1 gig of unshaped international bandwidth.

@Pada, planning to use your traffic splitter, haven't gotten around to fiddling with it yet.

+1 for making use of the included local, 30gB goes quite a ways
 
Cool, but you sure you can use another account when using an "All-in-one" service?
 
AFAIK you're only limited to the ISP accounts that you may use when you're renting your ADSL line from like Cybersmart or perhaps VOX Telecoms.

If you're renting your ADSL line from Telkom, you can use any ISP account that you like.

The All-in-one services have restrictions stipulated in the terms and conditions but do not police your adsl line. AFAIK, as long as you pay them, they are happy.

i was thinking, can the ISP lock the line only to work with their account? things would maybe be better if they could...
far as i know they can lock the account to only work on a line, or lock the modem/router to an account

Remember that they are renting the ADSL line from Telkom and then reselling it to the end-user, hence they could be within in their rights to lock the account. It will depend on the contract signed between the two parties.
 
The ISP's can lock the ADSL account to work only from 1 specific telephone number - like the Afrihost free 1GB accounts are like that.

I think Mweb actually locks your ADSL modem to a specific ADSL account if you take out a contract with them which includes a "free" ADSL modem.

El Diablo is always gonna control and maintain things 'till like 2019. :)
i've seen a few resellers stipulate quite clearly that you may only connect to their account, but i'd guess the majority of those users violate the terms because there isn't really much to stop them from doing so.
i haven't seen too many ppl complain that VI (aka vootreker internet) or anyone refused or terminated the service

edit:// you guys know i'm talking about locking the actual line right? like lets say you pay SAOL for your line, can they make it that only an @saol dot dadada username works on that line?

Trust me, it works. I've been doing it now for years. Using Telkom's Do2 account along with any other cheap ADSL I can find. Pada's TrafficSplitter application works wonders.

What is meant by an All-Inclusive deal is that you pay one inclusive fee for the line rental and bandwidth . It is up to you, how and what you then connect with, be it Telkom's or Afrihost's account.
