I was hoping one of you knowledgeable guys here could give me an answer to this...

As far as I know the "Do" bundles from Telkom have always been month to month. Today I tried to sign up for the new Do Premium bundle at R699 including line rental.

The person I spoke to was happy to sign me up, and even activated my account, I received the SMS, then I got a call back saying that because it's a 24-month contract I needed to get my router.. They hadn't mentioned the contract up front, and I immediately argued about it, and eventually I ended up just telling them to cancel it, as I didn't want to the contract.

Is this now the norm for Telkom's Do bundles or only the new Do Premium one? As far as I understood it, you could sign a 24-month contract and then get a 'free' router, but I believed the option still existed to take it month-to-month without the router and contract.

As a side note, any suggestions for ISP now that Telkom seems to have gone contract crazy? I do around 300GB each month on a 6meg line.

I'm sure you can specifically tell them month to month with no modem. Pretty sure the sales staff get paid on incentives to push contracts... *own assumption*

On the website you can select month to month still...

I tried that, so I'm guessing they were misinformed... :-(

That's interesting, perhaps I should just try that option :-) Although right now, after having them activate my service and then hopefully cancel it a few minutes later, I'd better leave it and ensure it gets cancelled as expected.

Yeah, you have to make sure that you tell them month-to-month. The call centre lady i spoke to kept asking if i was 100% sure I didn't want a contract because i wouldn't get the "free" router.

Sounds like I may need to try again, since the guy I spoke to was sure I couldn't take it without the contract :wtf:

Same here. Even just upgrading my line to 10MB with no freebies was an issue. Guy said it was only possible on contract. Dropped the phone on him.

I signed up for Do Elite Plus (R839 pm) through the call centre and ended up paying R 1,125 pm for separate 40 Mb/s line and 100 GB data. After much querying as to why I was not paying the advertised price was advised that that price was only valid on a 24 month contract and had to be done through a Telkom shop.

I have numerous fights with Telkom regarding it. Basically the word "bundle" to Telkom means 24 month contract in "telkom terminology". I tried to explain to them this isn't but they just say that is how they get taught. So NEVER use the word "bundle". I tried to use analogy's of a burger and chips bundle but they just don't understand. Even the manager told me that bundle means 24 months which is totally non nonsensical despite me showing it on their website being called bundle for month to month.

Since the package bundles have unique names you can get away with not using the word bundle. As soon as you mention that word it means 24 month contract to them.

Just say the Line + ISP package name and mention month to month e.g. "Do Premium Plus Month to Month".

Do premium plus is not a 24 month contract unless you want a modem and explorer. It has always been like this. If the person you are dealing with insist it is then drop the call and phone again.

Hate it when you get staff in positions that they do not even know how to do the job ...

Sorry I know I'm necro'in a old post but does anyone possibly have a link to prove that you can take the do premium on a month to month without the router. I know I read it somewhere on their site today but for the life of me I can't find it again. The sales rep told me to provide proof that month to month is an option before they'd give it to me.

Your best bet is trying another call centre agent, very few seem to understand the month to month option.

I signed up to the 2mb uncapped bundle with free modem and installation at R579. I asked for month to month, and again cofirmed it via their Twitter account. I was also worried I had signed up to a 24 month contract, and checked with Charl to make sure. I made sure that I did a screen shot of that DM with their Twitter account.

I was signed into a contract even though I asked for the month to month option. I'm trying to get out of it but they are not responding to my tweets.

Have they done the install yet? Contact Charl on here via pm, and ask him to assist

Same happened to me, 3 times, majority of call centre agents are adamant you have to sign 24 months.

You don't ha've to sign a 24 month contract, the option is there for you on month to month. If you don't ask and double check, they can do as they please. So before the install happens, ensure you get that in writing. I saved the Twitter response where they indicate I'm on month to month. So any funny business and I'll be on to them with proof.

I'm on dopremium package and I pay telkom on a month to month basis, no contract. Though I have to add that month to month is a bit more expensive than on a 24 month contract. I pay telkom roughly R768, if I'm not mistaken.

I think it's only a little bit extra, and I think it's to eliminate risk to them. Contracts they have a bit more freedom, as they know they can nail you for late or no payments. Think the pros outweigh the risks when going month to month, so would advise people to go this route if possible

Well then you are being screwed over because I finally came right yesterday and I'm being charged R699 for Do Premium month to month. Unless of course the rep lied and I get a nice invoice come month end.

I've managed to get them to move me to month-to-month and it seems that it's ~R770 on my invoice and not R699.
