ive applied for a telkom line to be installed. the technician has been over and says theres no draw line into my apartment. after chatting to body corporate they say that it was a subcontractor of telkom that forgot to install the draw line and that telkom should do it. obviously telkom doesnt want to do it and says i should get an electrician in before they install the line.

what are my options guys?

If you want it quickly(relative) I suggest you get the electrician or the whole thing will get drawn out.
You could fight it but it will be so long and will eat your time and resources.

It is almost certainly the responsibility of the Body Corporate/ Developer to rectify or fight with Telkom.
Best to take Mamajlot's advice get an electricain to put in the draw wire and then present the bill to the Body Corporate for the prolonged fight for recompense.

They (Telkom) will likely offer you wireless after you start making complaints, that is their job to draw line but they use subcontractors and they will take time to do so. Start complaining and do not waste your money on electrician.

It's not Telkoms responsibility if you are in an estate or apartment complex. The developer should have taken care of that.

One doesn't order line from developer but from Telkom. Why would be infrastructure required for functioning of Telkom be responsibility of developer. Even if it is how they can ask guy to find electrician and do his infrastructure? Will he become shareholder of Telkom after that?
It looks like Telkom is doing big favor to customers by selling service to them. Almost like they giving it for free and they will pick and choose who will get it and who not.

It is the responsibility of the Developer, the demarcation point ends at the gate.

I had the same problem. Drawline was missing in the house and Telkom refused to pull the cable. If you want to get it done quickly, organise an electrician and pull the draw-wire. If your body-corporate has an electrician, use theirs.

I had the exact same issue in my old complex close to Lonehill. It was newly built and I was one of the first to move into the complex. When I saw the place, I asked a friend if he knows anyone in the area has Telkom ADSL, and he stated that other people in the complex that he knows has an ADSL line. When in fact it was the complex next door to me that had Telkom lines.

When I arrived and applied for ADSL, Telkom said the same thing, that there is no draw line and it's too long to reach from where the Telkom box is just outside the complex gates. Telkom said that the body corporate has to get an Telkom box installed on the premises.

When speaking to the body corporate, they said that had applied for Telkom to be install a year before they started building the complex, and Telkom have never come to the table to install Telkom lines in the unit.

The body corporate even sent out letters to everyone asking who in the complex was willing to apply for a Telkom line and only 14 out of the 60 residents responded and said they would apply. Telkom needed at least 70% of the residents (over 40 people) to apply for Telkom lines before they would even consider installing a Telkom box in the complex. After living in the complex for a year without ADSL and using my 3G modem, I decided to move out. The complex still does not have Telkom lines. Telkom @$$h0les!

Great question, lol. I assume its the line from the closest Distribution Pole (DP) to the customer premesis ?

It's not location dependant, a draw line can be used anywhere within a conduit that carries cables. In this scenario it is required from your property boundary into your house/flat etc. If the developer installed a conduit for the cables they should have left a draw line in the conduit. A draw line is used to attach new cables to the draw line and then you simply pull on the other end of the draw line to pull the new cable through the conduit.

@drsurf you could always go wireless if you want you could get a Telkom WiMax connection if you live in a Wimax footprint. Also that was you getting a 512K line for what about what a 384 dsl + landline would cost you.
