Telkom offers workers 0% salary increase

Telkom and two unions representing most of its workers have failed to reach an agreement over salary increases for the 2023/2024 financial year.

This week, an alliance consisting of the Communications Workers Union and South African Communications Union informed their members that they failed to agree with Telkom and Gyro Group following two dispute resolution meetings.

I always thought increases were based on performance!
It appears as if the norm nowadays is to demand an increase and then at unreasonable percentages and perks that a company cannot afford.
Get your 15% increase now and sit without a job next month - go figure.

If Telkom employees have skills that are that valuable, they should easily get jobs at other companies

If they cannot get other jobs, they have 2 options:

1. Upskill themselves and thereby get a better paying job or

2. Accept whats on the table.

Decolonization of salary increases, followed by decolonization of salaries

They're losing money because the most of the technical talent with intimate legacy system knowledge has already left because of not only a lack salary increases, but also because when senior employees leave, they don't offer those positions/job titles to whoever is left that has to pick up the slack. Speaking for a friend.

Natural attrition.. Telkom should just retrench and pay out the severance rather than a slow bleed..
