Okay .. time for a n00b questoin :p . The telkom exchanges, where are they located? They're not those big blue and green boxes on street corners baring the telkom logo are they?

No, the exchanges are hidden underground underneath the green and blue boxes. To get in, you need to know the secret knock (its: knock knock pause knock knock pause knock pause knock) Then the door opens and you climb down a ladder..

Seriously though, the exchange buildings are usually huge grey or brown brick structures with bars on all the windows. Very 70's style government type structures. They have blue paint on the gutters usually, and a sign on the gate with a telkom logo and the exchange area on it: eg: Wynberg. Exchanges also often have a tall cellphone mast on the roof or premises. If you see Telkom vans around such a building, it another clue ;)

If you see a big crap-looking brown building with no windows and a Telkom pickup or two outside - that would be the exchange. They don't put up Telkom signs on them for the most part.

Not really a good idea from a security POV ... imagine the copper cable thieves having a field day :D.

lol or all the rotten eggs lying all over the place..

"In today's news, the sale of Jumbo freerange eggs has skyrocketed following yesterday's announcement that Telkom will be putting their logo on their exchanges"...

er, they don't share buildings with the electrical house thingees that look all 70s do they?

A face brick building with no windows, tall fences all around and no signs that it's an exchange built by the evil Telkom empire.

Are you planning to haxor your local exchange, Dovi? :D

Why you wanna know where they are? Just out of simple interest, or something more sinister in mind, like perhaps serving tee en biskuit to the techies? Hee-hee: actually, it's easiest to offer them a beer or coke on a hot day, and strike up a conversation - you'll find out more than just where the exchanges are located...

I know it sounds like a stooopid question, but T still haven't said yes/no...

Actually while we're on this subject, does anyone know the precise location of the Olivedale exchange and how Telkomonopoly measures your copper cable distance from the exchange (the 5.7Km Telkomonopoly ADSL limit)?

Aye and get to hear dissapointing details of how many exchanges are only linked with 2Meg lines to the the nearest BRAS. That is 4 x 512k ADSL users = maxed out local exchange. You don't even have to offer tea and cookies, the techs will disclose this info freely.

I would love to find out where one of the big bosses sit with his feet up on the table... Telkom istalled ADSL and left my house in such a mess with all the cabling!! There is no glue, no nails, nothing! The cables just hang from wall to wall..... When asked to repair it, they said: "Its not the responsibility of Telkom for customer neglegance" How can they do this to us??? Is telkom actually worth being a company??? I truely think that Telkom is hell on earth! Where do i find a biggy? I want to give him a peice of Telkom ADSL!!!! Where is consumer rights in this country? Where is our freedom of choice??? Its unconstitutional!!!!

The technicians had a map of sorts when they installed my system which showed where the overhead lines ran in my neighbourhood along with all the houses and the location of the termination box in the premises of one of my neighbours just down the street .

The guy that installed mine also said he had no glue.

Fortunately I got a glue gun and glue sticks in my toolkit being a DIY sort of chap :).

Ok, I will develop some pickpocketing skills & lure a Telkomonopoly techie over with a fault report & steal the ADSL treasure map...:D

Seriously though, if you're near the Olivedale exchange please tell me where it is - private message is fine in case you have angry short-sighted neighbours that want to blow the place up.

MUWAHAHA. Wouldn't you like to know :D nah was just wondering .. there's one of those blue and green hellkom boxes outside house (my friend tried throwing a firecracker inside it, but I was worried about not getting onto MSN for a few days, so I stopped him :( ) and I thought that was the exchange, so I wouldn't be TOO far from it if I got ADSL. but I guess I was wrong ..

old topic brought up again. anyone know where the Birchleigh North, Kempton Park exchange is. curious to know cos we have a problem at home just want to see how true it is on the limit that they have..

please your help would be appreciated.... :)
