Hi there

I'm in the Pretoria area and on 100mb fibre line. When I use Telkom as my isp my speed is extremely slow like 5mbps or slower and also my ping is about 56ms. I've already checked the telkom portal and it doesn't show fup activated.

I also treid with another isp and it works. I can get my full 100mbps line speed. I tried anything from single pc connected to the router etc. My router is a asus rt-ac86u and can do speedtest directly from router but I tried another pc and still slow speed but then swsap to a different isp and it works at full speed and 4ms ping

My brother also on telkom internet has the same issue with slow speed

Can anyone at Telkom please look into this as I already reported the issue to Telkom?

This is my speed test directly from the router

Hi there also using telkom on openserve fibre Pretoria area.
I'm also experiencing the same problem, reported multiple times but nothing is being done. I'm busy moving to a different ISP.

Same problem on my line for the last 2 to 3 weeks, but only sometimes. The speed is generally fine, but randomly it drops to less than 5mb/s, with a ping about 30 ms. It stays slow for an hour or so, then reverts to normal speed with a ping less than 5 ms.

Sad but it's worth going to a dfifferent isp. I can suggest you CISP or Web sqaud. they seems to be working good. We have websquad 200mb FTTH connection at the office for about 8 people working there and it works flawlessly. We stream youtube etc a lot and it just works.

So much for giving us double speed. they can't even get the normal speed right. Glad i posted here so telkom can see if they even have people looking at this. I do play games online and it's hard playing on a ping that goes up and down and getting packet loss due to slow speed.

My internet has been slow all day now.

If anyone from telkom answers a post on this forum then I'll eat my tekkies!
Don't even think Telkom has someone loking at this forum anymore. They so useless these days worry more about other stuff than giving us better broadband service

Was fine early morning and now it's slow again. Maybe I just need to swap to a better isp. Not worth struggling to fix it as it might never happen

I think Openserve free fibre trial is putting their network under pressure. The 20Mbps free fibre deal seems very popular.

Family member got the free deal and it runs on Telkom network but in the evening it's slow.

And that's why you don't really give something for free. free trial that is probably so slow. Why can't ISPs just learn from this.

Can soemone do a test that's on any other network do a speedtest to openserve pretoria and then to any other network in pretoria or jhb. I seem to see my ping is high about 22ms to a Openserve server in Pretoria and then vodacom server in Pretoria is 4ms heck even any other server in PTA and JHB is lower than openserve. So maybe another issue.

I logged a fault again late yesterday. I just got a call from a Telkom technician, who said he will escalate the issue. Holding thumbs...

Just remember that the openserve PTA server is not necessarily closer than a JHB server, even if you are situated in PTA. You first have to reach the ISP’s breakout- which will likely be in JHB, then they route the traffic back to PTA for an on-net server. Testing to the lowest latency destination will give you the performance through to their breakout- in this case, JHB.

Holding thumbs but doubt will be sorted out before next week tuesday

Telkom will know that they are congested or not. But that would be assuming their resources are competent. Another explanation might be management suppression. (Example of this is the Challenger disaster which was launched regardlesss...)

I'm getting normal speeds to the Openserve speedtest server in Pretoria. Tried a few times.
So congestion within the ISP. Can be last mile or breakout - cannot determine that but they would know.

Doesn't Telkom do Internet breakout in Centurion and Bellville DCs?

Think we all suffering the lte is also kak slow.

Usually 150mb down now it's sub 2mb atleast if it's all of us it's usually resolved quicker
