We have had the Telkom Closer Option 3 on our residential line since the beginning of the year and we have never used more than 600 of the 1000 free standard time minutes per month. Instead of wasting the free minutes, as it does not roll over to the next month, I was thinking of faxing the Protest Flyer that used to be available at the antitrust website to as many people as possible using the telephone directory as a source for fax numbers. I also think it is a great way to use Telkom's supposedly affordable free call services against itself.

Do you think that it will make more people aware of what's going on in the telecommunications industry and how Telkom, ICASA and the DOC is letting South Africa fall back technologically and economically? Or will they just see it as an unsolicited fax?

Might well do that Ash but you'd have to be careful to not get people pissed off at you for it as that would reflect rather poorly :D It's an idea certainly. Would be interesting to see what other folks think.

I have been quite busy lately so I haven't had the time to reply until now.

I have decided to go ahead with this idea, even though the response from people here hasn't been very positive. I cannot help but feel this is a good idea. I am also more enthusiastic about it after I read about the Telecoms Action Group's advertising campaign.

About the spam issue, I really don't see it as spam because I am not faxing an advertisement for products I am selling and I am not gaining anything personally from it. I see it more as a "Public Service Announcement," it is factual information regarding the dire state of telecommunications in this country and ways in which to change it, information that everybody in South Africa should be aware of.

Now, the only problem is the Protest Flyer that used to be on the AntiTrust website. Does anybody know how I can get a hold of it?

Spam is any communication that is unwanted, Newsletters, Adverts, Public announcements etc all are spam unless i sepcifically chose to recieve it.

If your fax happens to arrive in my fax machine, costing me paper and ink, you can expect a harsh and very unfriendly response.

Very bad idea - this will incur a cost to most recipients (that thermal paper is expensive, so is normal paper and ink/toner). This will also reflect very badly on the antitrust "movement", since you are spamming in their name. Yes, you mean good, but this will have many negative consequenses that the antitrust people (not you) will have to deal with.

AshCokeandDash, I don't think this is a good idea. We do not want to spam people. If you wish to go ahead with this, we@antitrust ask that you please remove any reference to antitrust.co.za.

AshCokeandDash, seriously consider this, I think you will understand that it's not a good idea.
