Hi BlueIce and others

We received a response from Telkom regarding the problems with web space activation. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any success.

Good Day Sir

I am responding to an e-mail sent by you, complaining about the activation of free web space. I do apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to assist you with this problem. For the passed two weeks we had been having a problem with the UNIX server, with a result we were unable to see whether the web space was activated or not, hence customers were sent back and forth via our helpdesk and technical support. This problem has since been resolved.

The correct procedure for the activation of free web space is for the customer to send an e-mail to either:

[email protected] or
[email protected]

With his username and contact telephone number. The agent who opens the mail will activate the web space and call the customer back with his username, password and directory name.

If the customer has any queries regarding the activation of his free web space e.g. Username, Password, Directory name, pointing, he/she can call our helpdesk on 0800 500 200. This is the correct number for the activation of web space. The technical support number is there to assist customer's with any technical problems they have with their web space or any other Telkom Internet related product.
If there is anything further that you would like assistance on, please don't hesitate to contact me directly on (012) 680-6585 or e-mail me on the abovementioned address.

Once again I do apologise for all the inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards
Noelene Lutchman

Thanks for letting us know RPM. I'm sure that BlueIce and the rest of us would have been a lot more understanding if they had just told him they were having a problem with the UNIX server instead of giving the poor guy the run-around.

How difficult could it be to see on a UNIX server if a directory was created or not?

cd to the appropriate spot

do ls -l to check the rights

and you know if the directory was created correctly or not.

Pity that Telkom lacks such basic UNIX skills.

Now wonder they reckon that the Internet is only usefull for web and sending mail.

Yup - UNIX skills are a pre-requisite if you want to be an access provider!

Also I see they make no mention of a refund to those users who paid for a service that they did not recieve?
