Telkom fixed-line shocker

Its not a shocker, everyone knows it will be some time before their ADSL customers begin to migrate to fibre, which by the way is also fixed line.

How is it a "shock" to you, MyBB?

You have been privy to Telkom's strategy for at least the last five years and are fully aware of their plan to migrate many of their subscribers from copper (fixed lines) to 3G/LTE.

Or is it another clickbait headline?

You are also very aware of their convergence plans.

Why not combine their fixed and mobile subscribers numbers to determine whether we should be shocked or not?

Not good news for those still on the network.
From 2015 to 2016 there was a 6.5% decline.
Does this mean smaller base will have to pay more?
What happens in 2020, when there are less than 2m left?

That's where ICASA comes in and controls the pricing to protect the consumer.

Yup, not maintaining your infrastructure, keeping some areas in 4megs for years and years. This all adds up Telkom

OK, I feel much better knowing that ICASA is there to save the day.
[/sarcasm on]
ICASA are doing a fantastic job - achieved 29% of targets
Well done ICASA on that investigation into WhatApp - good use of taxpayer money.
Well done ICASA on controlling the OOB shark - you know how difficult is it to approve bill shock rules.
[/sarcasm off]

Surprisingly ICASA are pretty sharp in some departments! :p

Nobody needs a ladline if Telkom adjusted their business to ADSL first years ago

Monthly fixed-line rental is a luxury! I see no point having a fixed-line at home when I have a mobile phone which is on prepaid, with no monthly rental charges
Ok, so tell me then, if you had a fibre provider roll out in your area, would you still be saying the same?

Yea, and here I sit having to rent a land line only to have ADSL, wth???
Anyway, would love to try either LTE or Fibre, but no rollout or plans in my area :(

The decline is expected as businesses move to hosted PABX and homes, who only need voice services, move to mobile.

What would be interesting is to see how many voice-only lines there are compared to voice+DSL lines.

I have fibre in my area but the prices are still too high for what I get. Once the fibre prices become more viable I will also leave Telkom behind for good. Lately they are not too bad but it irks me that I have to pay for a landline which I NEVER use.

I only use my landline for ADSL. I don't even have a telephone connected to it. The only people who ever called it were cold calling sales people, so I disconnected it ages ago.

Not much of a shocker really!

They've already admitted that they know customers are migrating away from legacy services such as fixed-line voice so it was expected.

I'm one of those who cancelled in that period. But i'm still a Telkom customer I just moved to their LTE. No more daily calls to 10210 and constant fault reporting

Silly article. How can this be shocked. You MyBB reported numerous times about their aggressive FTTH strategies.

Show me those numbers together.
