I'm in an area where we no longer have Telkom service, due to cable theft. I heard yesterday (from the area manager via their customer scare) that apparently they now have approval for deploying a wireless alternative. They mentioned something called EMGW. Anybody know anything about these plans or this technology?

Google search for EMGW produces lots of vendor sites claiming the technology gives you wireless DSL, telephony and fax. Can't find any detail on the technology, though. Looks like EMGW stands for "enhanced MultiGain Wireless"?

Have tried that. They say WiMax is only offered where ADSL is available, and our exchange is ADSL capable. They don't seem to understand that the fact that the exchange is ADSL capable means nothing without the cables..... I actually have line of sight to the recently erected WiMax tower, but don't know whether it is active yet.
