So I'm sitting in my car outside a Telkom WiFi hotspot courtesy of Rage Shoe Store in order to test the facility.

I got premier parking so I'm about 20m from the Rage counter parked at one of the malls.

I just did a test on speediest and currently at 3.01mbps dl and 1.01ul.

Youtube absolutely no buffering. Tried a torrent from YIFY and there's definitely shaping or throttling whatever you call it. I need to sit here for 29 days to dl the Apes movie.

All in all I'm very impressed with this facility which is virtually free and we'll done to Telkom Mobile.

It's just great extra value for Telkom Mobile customers, which no other service provider in South Africa offers for free.

At my local Wimpy, I get download speeds of 7Mbps - 10Mbps, which is not bad at all.

I love it!! :)

It would depend on what ADSL speed the WiFi node is connected to - Telkom provide an ADSL line to the store dedicated to the WiFi link.

All depends on how close you sit to the hotspot.

Got tired of having to physically go into McD to dl so now I just park outside during lunch hour or free time and do it from there.

The key is finding the best place to park. Usually as close as possible to the window where you receive your order or the jungle gym.

Yup. All Telkom WiFi installations run on a 10MB line. Infrastructure permitting.

What are the requirements to use these? And are there any restrictions (other than the throttling of torrents)? I'm considering getting a Telkom Mobile SIM. I've seen their coverage map and my neighbourhood is included. Now I need to take a SIM for a test drive.
