Telkom hates torrents.

I was on my 2Mb Telkom account downloading something small and unimportant (low hundreds of MB) ... at 5KB/s.

When I decided to try out my 1Mb Axxess account it jumped to 90KB/s.

Also ... if I want to play Diablo 3 I better switch over to my Axxess account.

The only reason why I still have my Telkom account is that sometimes I get downloads of basically 200KB/s.

To get that from Axxess I would have to increase my monthly payments.

Why use torrents?

Because sometimes I have to. It doesn't happen a lot anymore. As a matter of fact, this is the first torrent in months that I've been trying to download.

Ok, maybe not months but the first in at least 3 weeks.

Just dropped a test torrent and its running at 350+kB/s not exactly line speed (4mbps account) but pretty close.

Try unchecking uTP bandwidth management under files-preferences-bittorrent. Also dont limit your upload, I found if I limit my upload to 5kB/s, like I usually had it, then my download rate was very low. Set upload to unlimited and speeds improved drastically.
I dont know if this was due to a uTorrent update I did recently or not.

I hope this helps you.

Depends on time of day. Download after 00:00.

Go capped..............I'm assuming these are low priority uncapped accounts.

This morning between 6 and 7 am my torrents on both Webafrica and Telkom crawled at between 20 b/s and 200 b/s. :(
And thats on capped accounts!

Sounds like an issue outside of the bandwidth from those providers.

They don't like Steam either. Or Youtube. Or browsing. Or doing anything really. You're lucky to get 50% of your line speed - there's a reason they are the cheapest now.

Scratch what I said about Axxess being more tolerant of torrents.

My Axxess account has also slowed my torrent download to a crawl.

It seems like torrents in South Africa is not going the be happening.

Cheap accounts are cheap for a reason, they are more contended and therefore slow things that are not 'on-demand' in order to give those things that require speed the speed they need - such as browsing and email :D The only accounts that work will for torrents during the busiest internet times are business accounts as they are less contended and therefore can offer more bandwidth per client, i.e. torrents aren't blocked/slowed to a crawl during the day.

MWEB worked perfectly fine. Until you went over their invisible limit that is.
