Telkom installing fibre in Hyde Park

So Telkom is finally putting fibre on the overhead copper cable masts along my street :D. What I want to know is, will I be able to get a fibre offering over this cable from any of the operators, or is Telkom going to have exclusive use over the fibre? (i.e. is it going to be open access)

Telkom uses the open access model (unlike most others :p ).

I wonder how this model will work in practice. Line rental plus ISP? That is essentially Vuma's model. The only part that really makes it open is that it can interconnect with other providers at Teraco.

I didn't take any photos of the overhead cables as it looks just like a copper cable but a bit thicker. But here are some photos of where I believe a street distribution cabinet for the fibre will be located. It looks like they are pulling in DFA fibre over here, who they might contract to send the data to Teraco. Pretty much the same business model as Vuma.

Well yes an agreement to pay them a fee to use the infrastructure, they did pay to install the fibre, they are entitled to get some return on investment. In the region of R30 million I believe. What other financial models are available out of interest?

But the client is already paying Vuma for the line rental... why must the ISP also pay for the same infrastructure?

Not for 4mbps - that's where i was referring to the ISP having to pay a fee.

How sure are you that the ISP still has to pay Vuma for >4mpbs speeds when they are already getting a line access charge?
 
With Vumatel client will not pay anything to them.

All fees will be paid to ISP.
I.e. line and data will be a bundled fee paid to ISP.

When they first launched the plan was that client pay them for line and ISP for data, this is not the case anymore.
