Can somebody shed some light on the Integrated sim, and whether one has to use Telkom as a data provider to be able to use this sim?

Yes that is correct , you have to use Telkom for your data as well, and secondly, this is by "invite" only from Telkom, you cannot apply for the service, they offer it to you when your adsl line has stability issues...
The service works wonderful, now that they(Telkom) understands how to support it...
