Last month I got capped a bit earlier than expected. To keep me online for the rest of the month, I wanted to get a prepaid ADSL account from WebAfrica, but my dad phoned Telkom Internet and just got an account from them :( . My dad told me that the operator said that it was a prepaid account. AFAIK, Telkom Internet doesn't sell prepaid accounts though. My dad isn't too clued up on anything when it comes to computers, so I think he might have misunderstood the operator. I'm not 100% sure though. So, my first question is:

"Does Telkom Internet sell prepaid accounts?"

It's just that, with 2.7561 GB usage for this month (0.7561GB over the supposed "prepaid" cap), it doesn't seem like a prepaid account.

To me, the ability to go over the cap is an indication that this is either a regular ADSL account or a pay-as-you-go account. Therefore my second question is:

"Does Telkom Internet sell pay-as-you-go accounts?"

There are 2 reasons why I am worried about this:
- I think Telkom may have just charged my dad for this additional account for last month and this month (because it is just a regular ADSL account).
- If I start downloading a lot of stuff now, I don't want to end up paying for it all because I am on some pay-as-you-go account (one where you pay per meg after cap).

Thanks in advance for any replies.

What ISP Should I choose thread said:
TelkomInternet - SAIX Reseller

TelkomInternet are mostly known at this stage for their 3GB accounts that cost R249, however this is NOT a hard cap. TelkomInternet allow you to exceed the limit of 3GB, and usually at this stage reach in the regions of 5GB to 15GB. The information currently known shows that they cap at a totally random time so you may only be on 4GB and be capped, however most users are capped around 8GB-10GB. Note: As of recent figures, capping stats have been lower, between 4GB and 8GB, with a average of 6GB according to posts in the TelkomInternet Capped Threads)

I personally recommend this ISP for users that are looking to use more than 3GB and take advantage of the relaxed capping policy, if you want to use 3GB only there are far cheaper offerings at the other ISP's mentioned.

Cost
2GB Relaxed Capping Account - R199
3GB Relaxed Capping Account - R249
This and other accounts are available from www.telkomsa.net

Concurrent Connections:
Standard Account (2GB) - 1
Advanced Account (3GB) - 2
Premium Accounts (4GB Unshaped) - 4

Recommended Setup:

1) The recommended setup for the TelkomInternet account so you are able to have the most benefit from it is purchase a WebAfrica 1GB prepaid (unlimited rollover) account as backup. You are able to get the max out of your TelkomInternet and fall back to a pay as you go account for the rest of the month in the event the TelkomInternet is capped.

2) Another way of using the TelkomInternet account if desired, as a add-on above the WebAfrica prepaid, you are able to purchase a OpenWeb local only 30GB account for R121 (described further in the post) and use route sentry to use both (TelkomInternet and OpenWeb) at the same time and route international traffic via TelkomInternet and Local via OpenWeb. This will give you access to valuable 30GB of local access and use TelkomInternet relaxed capping for international only access giving you the maximum experience.

i.e

Telkom sell
2GB, 3GB Shaped
4GB Unshaped
and no prepaid accounts (use WebAfrica if you get capped on TelkomInternet and want to pay as you go)
