Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Yes, I'm sure if you have a large & fast account streaming would not take up much.
4Mbps
Be careful of blanket statements / generalisations... ranger has admitted that there have been issues in KZN, which is what ponder has been tracking. I have not seen many complaints from the EC.

Which TelkomInternet uncapped account do you use?

This guy acp put it better than I can:

"Some appear to be blessed with immaculate accounts, such as MickeyD, who will virtually always respond with a 'Nope, all fine here...' - hold on to that line/account my friend, because you have pleased the gods of Telkom and they are bestowing their blessing upon you "

So what account do you use?

I fought for mine... even knocked on the exchange door as I knew people were inside, and asked them what I had to do.

I must be one of those too! :D

I think it's dependent on the exchanges. I know I'm connected to the new VDSL MSAN exchange, which must account for a flawless connection.

I doubt MickeyD had any "special" account at all. There's an issue in KZN and thats why guys like Ponder, Shanezn and myself are stuck in shyte street.
Before this IPC bull I had no problems with streaming or downloading, bar torrents, during the day or night.
I'm hopeful for a fix but if it's not right by EOB Monday, I'm signing up for a large capped account with webafrica.

Will I return later if Ti fixes things? Possibly. When Ti works, it works great.

It isn't just KZN and the problem is being understated for some reason.

I've just been playing BF3 and got kick 5 times off of the Telkom game server. This is standard for weekends on uncapped.

It's a 2meg account which should be more than adequate for what I do.

Our exchange is not open to visitors. We have tried numerous ways to report the problem, but get told a lot of different things. The guy in the Telkom shop said people were coming in shouting at him for the same reason so he tells them to email. You never hear back though.

Which area? ranger has asked that we included this as he cannot work on generalised issues...

Have you tested for exchange congestion at the times when you having the issues?

I know this might not be what you want to do but it's the first step to getting some answers.
If many people in your region are having the same problems then that can point to a general problem in your region, much like our situation in KZN.
If it's just you then we need to isolate your case and see why its only you.

First thing I'd do is run a ping to google.co.za then take the IP on the 2nd hop and run a pint *IP address* -t. Leave this to run for 10min then go back and analyse the results.
You should see a consistent ping, ie. the ping's ms should not differ by more than 3-5ms. If you seeing jumps in the ping times then it could be exchange congestion or the backhaul uplinks.
It's important to keep in my mind that sometimes an exchange can shows signs of congestion 1 minute and then be fine a minute or 2 later.
Just remember to try this when your experiencing slow speeds.

The technicians have all told me that uncapped is not suitable for gaming with the new policy. This is in line with the press releases this forum published. No torrents, no gaming. So if you've had the account for months suddenly things stop working as they used to.

Everything is reported as a line fault and then it goes from there. I've already spoken to 2nd line people who confirm that customers are calling in very unhappy but they have to follow their orders.

The techs who come to your house are not from TelkomInternet and don't know the difference between ISP accounts.

The Call Centre staff are not much better.

You need to get someone from TI to assist, which is what ranger does for us here at MyBB.

Do the tests and send the results to ranger via PM.

Not true, I have friends on TI uncapped who get the same ping and performance as my capped TI account.

Give me his number and I will call.

I have sent Tracerts to the escalation centre but they don't really respond apart from getting technicians to phone. The traces all look normal to Google.

Online gaming works through a different port, so if that's shaped or throttled then it happens. It looks very much like throttling on gaming specifically, so 2Meg is badly affected.

For gaming?

Torrents are so low, they are effectively turned off in the daytime, which fits with what their boss said in the press release.

It does not count. He must be 100% sure to START the downloads after midnight and then STOP them before 06H00.
