This feels almost like a thread necro but here goes...

It would seem when this thread goes quiet, suggesting everyone is happy, maybe, and things at TI are all humming along fine, I get problems.

Ranger hasn't poked his head 'round here much lately either.

Anyway, just wanted to ask if anyone else is getting slow page loads, sites not loading until you press 'F5', stuff like that? It seems to come and go. Browsing's good for hours and then I'll get an hour or so of an almost dial-up-like experience. It's not in the evenings. It seems random.

I have a TI 4 meg uncapped account running on an 8 meg line. I'm waiting to get my line moved to the newer ADSL2+ dslam in our exchange (still stuck on the "generation 1" 2003 original equipment) so I can get 10 meg with a view to going to a capped account.

Of course, as seems to be par for the course these days, speed tests are more than good, even when browsing seems to be on a go-slow.

Am I alone? No-one else? :(

BTW, exchange here is seriously under-utilised, so I doubt it's congested.

Uncapped & capped accounts have been performing well during business hours for the past couple of weeks, haven't had any complaints from clients regarding after hours either.

DNS routing maybe? Try using the Cape Town SAIX server as primary and see if that improves things - 196.43.34.190.

I've tried various combinations of DNS pairings without much luck. It certainly seems to me to be a DNS-type issue. On auto setting it reverts to rosebank (196.43.38.190) and Durban (196.43.54.190) . Setting to cape town, rosebank or variations thereof seems to make little difference. This is over a testing period of some hours. Line stats are all good, and other accounts (TI capped, axxess capped, Mweb capped and Afrihost capped) all perform well all the time. So I'm guessing it's just some anomaly with my TI uncapped account.

Trying CT and Rosebank DNS servers for the rest of the afternoon, see how that goes.

Can't ask for much better than this. 4 meg acc / 8 meg line.

Well I am very happy how Telkom handled my fault .

Seems they patched me up so I had internet over weekend .

Technician phoned me yesterday and told me my Fault was the main underground cable in Oxford Street .
I have been patient knowing its no fun digging up cables in the rain.
Last night and today no dropped connections.
:)

Well im still getting 2nd hop time outs, which last i checked was supposed to be fixed weeks ago, that in turn effects certain services.

Twitch has been especially bad lately ... with video stream not even loading at all tonight

I need some advice. I need 4 x 4Mbps uncapped accounts for my four business lines. Max. usage on each line will be approx. 500GB during December, but will average around 250-300GB per month during the rest of the year. The internet must be fast during peak hours and I don't want to get throttled when I use a lot of data.

What would you guys suggest?

I was looking at the 4Mbps Premium Advanced Uncapped for R1045pm, but the sales person I spoke to said that I would be throttled after using only 100GB. Surely that can't be correct???

You're going to struggle downloading that amount on uncapped.
Going for a capped account would probably be cheaper.

FTFY but forgot that Gareth already said "business lines" which usually means daytime. I also didn't see that he posted the cost already, which is much higher than several uncapped and unshaped accounts
FFTFY

What type of traffic do you want to move? Remember that the TI business uncapped account is not p2p friendly.

You can get 2TB for R4k with Afrihost with 10 concurrent connections, thats a little cheaper than 4 X R1045 accounts and it will be unshaped on all platforms.

For just about 2hrs for me things were super slow browsing but all speedy now :D this a.m :p.

Thanks ranger and team

All sorts - browsing, banking, skype, email, cloud backup, remote desktop, streaming, OS updates, software downloads (non-P2P) etc. P2P sucks speed during the day, so it will only run after midnight, if at all.

That's what I thought, so I bought an Afrihost capped account to run some tests and this what I got: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/473778-Afrihost-CAPPED-ADSL-Feedback-(MTN)?p=13909597&viewfull=1#post13909597 :(

Send a PM to user "ranger" and ask him for advice. Most folks here have the residential uncapped account so we aren't really qualified to discuss it.

PS. The Call Centre is useless... cannot tell their arse from their elbows!!
