Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Maybe, was brief but saw traffic go via a russian AS briefly I think on a late afternoon that has a history (can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday afternoon). BGP is fascinating. While we talking about these things then, earlier in the month one of the sub cables was damaged on the west coast, so perhaps that caused some of the issues early April? Then we recently had the whole AWS Amazon DNS stolen event the other day, so interesting times. Also if you monitor the infections the AV companies pick up of mobile phone and bots in South Africa, its scary. People here just don't seem to care about security. Then again at the cost of bandwidth and Win 10 issues, don't blame some for not wanting to update!
 
No issues here in Durban. Maybe a certain pool of IP addresses are being affected instead of a particular ISP?

Could be right, its certainly not just Telkom, I've tested another ISP and similar issues.
 
Okay so after much refreshing and reading. Could be DDOS or route flapping (config errors or hardware problems)? From SAIX there's a large amount of changes going on. Don't think BGP hijacking but there was some odd AS's popping up for brief moments in Ukraine and Russia - also Brazil. Anyway, thats my few hours of digging to just try get some sense of what the hell is happening with my internet connection, not sure how much might be correct as they currently guesses and just hope the guys that actually get paid for running this stuff sort it out.
 
As other posters have mentioned, a lot of the slowdowns I notice are with UDP connections. TCP seems to do just fine once it gets going, but getting anything connected is a pain in the ass. Local sites remain just fine.

I'm really confused. I have telkom ADSL, my neightbour has fibre from telkom/openserve. I'm having issues as everyone has stated as well above yet he says he doesn't notice any slow downs ie. from 7:30pm till midnight especially. We not being pushed to fibre are we? Have to ask.

Hi Bradza, if i may ask more or less roughly :-) where are you based? I am curious cause Openserv was suppose to lay fibre in my area and according to the Project manager this got 'canned' cause it wasn't feasible and they rather focused on complexes.

ha, probably wasn't feasible after all the repairs they had to make, trust me, you didn't want these guys that came here to see to your building, a mess to put it simply. If I owned this building I would've been going crazy at the destruction and damage to property. Morningside, Durban.
 
Might be jumping the gun but... looks like a sunny beautiful day out there on the route and ping rates at the moment with Telkom. Lets hope it holds up for tonight. Ping rates averaging 180ms. Would be the first time in a month for us here.

My issues appear to have mostly been sorted. Still jitter on the line, but I know what's causing it. After some additional tweaking on the security site to prevent further service loss, everything seems to work just fine.
 
I'm sick and tired of every single isp not performing like they should . Every single night I get high latency of about 50ms higher than with Cool ideas. Same happened on my axxess account. I was testing Cool ideas for a bout a week and it was working just fine but now I'm back on telkom and high ping again./ I logged a ticked with telkom but they unable to understand if I say latency/ping is high at night.

On cool ideas I was seeing 150-180m,s ping to international games like rainbow six siege but now I see 220-250ms with Telkom. this is pathetic.

I feel your pain but I've come to terms with international server latency but local servers are pretty solid for me.
