Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

This last week my uncapped Telkom ADSL connection has been down most of the time. It might be a line thing, as our lines here are generally bad.

Can't even browse the web most of the time:(

I saw no difference between 5 and 3 stars, and during the daytime, p2p and nntp was shaped into the ground, but that was fine for me as I wasn't home, and could bet my life savings that when the clock strikes 5pm, you will get full speed. I kept my DL's to 23:00-6:00 which equates to 10GB+ on a 4mb line.

I'm home during the day depending on my shift cycle so day time performance became an issue for me.
When I first started using Ti it was full speed all day on everything, not so much now. But I wont change, rather the devil you know is what I say.
If I leave it will be to go for a fat capped account - all uncapped ISP's have their downsides.

Its a common occurrence on all IS accounts, day time shaping is harsh but come 5pm the veils are lifted and the flood gates opened.

That's true. I've been with 5 different ISPs, and they all had their issues. TI works fine for me 90% of the time and the other 10% that it doesn't is usually resolved telephonically or by contacting Charl (TelkomZA) on here. I won't move anywhere unless it becomes completely unbearable, but to be honest, even when performance is terrible, I haven't had a situation where I didn't have connectivity at all. That's something I can't say about any of the other ISPs I was with. I suppose everyone's experience will differ, but I'm happy enough to stick around with TI.

Things are going quite awfully here 4mbps -- usage still in the green (120GB):

I think hop 2 is to blame fore local, and Telia for international.

I'm absolutely adoring the 1mbps upload though (SNR is all good 7.4d/10.2u).

I am using the sunnyusenet thing for NZBs and my downloads seem to be going at near full speed (+-200 kilobytes per second) about 90% of the time.

So honestly cant complain.

Things went back to normal after about 12. Getting great speeds. Hop 2 went back to 20ms rather than ~65 (I assume exchange congestion was to blame), and the Telia hop isn't timing out any more.

I've been struggling with Youtube for approximately two Months now, meaning even in 240p it still buffers on a 4mb line. Are any other users struggling with youtube, and if so, is there anything I can do to perhaps fix it?

Honestly a port reset seems to do the trick most of the time.

Internet's in a "jog on m8" state of mind today.

Hops 2 and 8 look like the problem yet again. South Region is having issues according to Afrihost's website, which would explain the abysmal international speeds.

@Giggity,

An SNR below 10 is not so good bud :(
An attenuation below 10 is excellent tho

Something seems to be messed up on my end, i've logged a fault and sent everything to TelkomZA just waiting for feedback now, im on a 4 meg line, but for the past week or so i've been getting no more than 50kbps on anything and everything?? Still very much in the green on Titracker, and cannot even get more than 1 gig down a night (downloads are scheduled from 23:00 till 07:00)

Did you private mail telkoza?

When I did, I got a prompt response followed by prompt help.

Not now. But quite some time back. Did not receive help. Have noticed that TelkomZA and ranger only help those they choose to help and not everybody. Those they choose to help also seem to be the one's who sing Telkom's praises and never say anything bad about them.

On the contrary if yo want feedback just start a thread complaining about them, trust me;)

Telkomza's always helped when I pm'd him, and its not because I praise them... Besides, I never really have issues with TI, but when I do Telkomza is always willing to help out..

There is really something wrong with my Telkom account. Downloads with http using a download manager are running at 100Kbps, nzbs with a paid news server also at 100Kbps. Streaming is very bad, watching a YouTube video on 360p constantly buffers. This is all on a 4 meg uncapped account from Telkom in Cape Town. If I use Afrihost or Webafrica I get full line speed with all of these and can even stream at 720p.

This is old news for me. Been seeing this for months.
