Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Just ran this test, and honestly, this is the browsing experience I'm having
Did some testing with speedof.me on different accounts last night using Firefox & Chrome, from best to worst:

Axxess Capped, Webafrica Capped, TI Capped, TI Uncapped and AfriHost Capped (AH couldn't run the test on Chrome).

... Axxess Capped was reporting speeds of 5mbps when TI Capped showed 3mbps and TI Uncapped 1mbps.

Maybe you could get an Axxess 1GB free account (if you don't have already) and test with it when your browsing is poor.

(For what it's worth Firefox consistently reported better speeds than Chrome).

Hi guys, how does Telkom uncapped compare to other ISPs?

I do around 160GB a month, game updates mostly and the occasional P2P

Tired of my crrent ISP throttling/shaping me in the ground, so much that I can't even connect to a CS:GO competive match.

At what "speed"?

Thanks - don't have one, will give it a go.

Below is this morning - apologies for all the screenshots.
Again - this time of day, speedof.me usually reports speeds much closer aligned to that of speedtest.net - and the experience is exactly that - much faster.

TI:

Afrihost:

I'm afraid my opinion remains: speedtest.net does not reflect accurately what the actual browsing/streaming experience is.
Also - I use the line during the day for Skype and MS Lync conferencing and MS Direct Access to work network.
Voice/video calls are laggy and network access slow when speedof.me shows slow speeds, and vice versa.
This while Speedtest.net invariably shows the same, good speeds.

Green Bar?

as in the sunlight soap :)
hehe... Telkom don't like you to use P2P during the day and it has a huge impact on your usage tracker. Here's mine for October:

I have my kids and their buddies playing online games every day and the wife loves her crafts and DIY Youtube viewing! I browse, watch sport online and download series (only after midnight - Night Surfer). Night Surfer downloads do not impact on the usage bar.

Here's my October usage up until this morning:

Like i said i dont do a lot of P2P and when i do its normally scheduled for either weekends or after im done gaming, which is generally at 00:00.

Does it work like that on weekends also?

as a league gamer, im more after quick and reliable services when it comes to low latency and max downloads from game clients like steam and origin.

Do they have test accounts?

thanks for the help and info :D

No, weekends are the same as mon-fri, free zone is from 00:00-07:00 so it's best to schedule big downloads & p2p stuff during this time as it does not count towards your usage tracker.

Latency on TI is pretty good, from kzn to the UK you are looking at 180-190ms

They also have their do Gaming portal http://gaming.do.co.za/

Then for capped (think it's capped only accounts) they have the do Gaming addon, http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/athome/telkomlife/gamesonpromotion/

They don't have test accounts as far as I'm aware.

Where you located?

Appreciate the offer and thanks for the help but dont stress, understand about the login details.

will maybe pop into a telkom shop tomorrow or so and see if they have test accounts or just get one and test, can always cancel if not happy.

During the Currie Cup final :D

LIONS4LIFE

If you were close by I would have loaned you my router for the duration of the currie cup final as the router is secured, I'm a bit weary of handing out my login details though.

have fun, be safe, and thanks for the help again, will report back if I jump in head first with TI

I'll be in the pub for the game so no need for internet then, just beer and I'll probably be there for a while after the game :D

What about the guest account?

Maybe someone else can help as I can't remember the login details, but one can login with a telkom guest account which gives you access to the saix speedtest server only, which is an easy way to compare speeds with your current isp?
