So, you seem to be served from a CDN deployment in or near London, and you are getting there with the path Cape Town->Durban->India->Paris->London, leading to the high latency.

We are busy with a few initiatives that should help with this. A CDN deployment that is live and has started serving some traffic should eventually be able to serve this traffic only using peering or internal capacity. Unfortunately, we can't dictate how this happens, the CDN operator does what they think is best for serving their customer's content.

Another initiative has gone live (see how you get to e.g. News24 now), which should alleviate some of the bandwidth constraints in the Cape Town site.

The new transmission for IPC and transit capacity in the Cape Town site was completed late last week, but Wholesale seems to be dragging their feet in operational work that needs to be done to allow us to use the additional capacity (first the existing capacity we have needs to be re-distributed over the additional transmission links). However, it should be completed by next week.

Exchange at 033 343 (Hilton) is lagging. Can you post a response with the stats of it, please?

a friend of mine is doing some trouble shooting, is this exchange issues?

some background: his line drops like every 5 minutes or so every time his line drops the connection speed downstream changes from 1529kbps(What it should be) to -13574kbps (new record) and when my line drops, the telephone dies as well and after a few mins it comes on again.

Definitely a line issue (if the modem loses sync). Check that you have filters instaĺled correctly, ensure that there aren't any indoor wiring issues that you have introduced, then log a line fault.

A traceroute while the line is up doesn't help diagnose the problem.

In some cases it is difficult to troubleshoot an intermittent problem, but if it reliably occurs every 5 minutes, it shouldn't be too difficult to locate the bad joint/cable.

i am having the exact same problem as your friend...........

cape town........telkom as isp.......

If it is exactly the same problem, the problem is before the electrical pulses are re-converted to digital signals at the DSLAM, and nothing beyond it (backhaul, ISP etc.) can have any influence on this behaviour.

These issues belojg in threads in the ADSL (not ADSL ISP) section, or in TelkomZA's inbox.

Just got my first bill after converting to the 10mbps 50gb capped account.

I see I've been charged for home uncapped adv as well.

So what's the point of converting?

There is a Business Uncapped, which is slightly more expensive. The difference between the two is that the Business version:
- Has higher weighting (should translate to a better experience).
- Comes with free web hosting and a co.za domain
- I think there is another differentiator in the pipeline, should be available in January.

The usage management policies are the same, but no, they are not the same products.

Then there is the Business Premium uncapped, which is much more expensive anf nothing like the consumer uncapped.

Why are you forced to get business uncapped? I don't get that part?

Which speedtest server was this?

If it was MWEB, we are aware if an issue with traffic between us and MWEB affecting users going vis Cape Town which could have started on Friday. It seems to be on MWEB's side (see a traceroute).

While the IPC hasn't been redistributed yet to allow us ro upgrade, other work over the past week has brought some improvements.

For other regions, there should be improvements in general, but we are still tweaking some load balancing of different circuits as the changes resulted in big changes in traffic distribution.

Is this possibly why my ping to a TeamSpeak server (CPT) went from 39ms to 100ms last night?

You pirate you :p

If you don't get it automatically just call accounts and give them all your fault refs. I got a R186 discount last month for this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/635258-TI-Durban-IPC-faults after I called them and gave them all my refs I logged.

The redistribution across the new transmission has been completed, so now requests for upgrade proposals can be submitted.

We have addressed all other traffic distribution issues on our network that crept in with some major changes over the weekend.

Has there been an improvement?

No, if anything a bit worse:

Maybe a problem on my DSLAM?

Ranger, is it possible to have a residential line, say at 4Mb, and be allowed to apply for the TI Business Uncapped Advanced package? I work from home, so the higher weighting will help out a bit and I don't do any downloads during the day apart from emails, some Youtube streaming, maybe some HTTP files. The only other streaming I do is Netflix from about 6-8PM. Streaming from Twitch is rarely done, usually only for watching keynotes and product launches. Does the DynDNS functionality also come with the business accounts?
