Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

looking at the 4mb uncapped, hows the FUP ?

when do they start limiting your speed ect,at what usage

I've got a 2Mb/s line and can do about 200GB a month no problem, scheduling majority of my downloads between 00:00-07:00.

So you should probably be able to get close to 400GB? Someone with a 4Mb/s line will probably reply with the correct info.

You are gonna need the above two links to track your usage.

Could not surf to some overseas URL's this morning, changed to Vodacom and every thing worked. Issue seems resolved for now.

If you provide server ip's we could test them for you (with ping & winmtr), ideally someone from your area.

Streaming is fine here but I don't do dstv streaming.

So when do they throttle?

There's no hard number, dynamic and depends on your behaviour. I've only been throttled once with TI, think it was second month after signup where I went ape downloading 24/7 (Thing is you get less than when scheduling). If you schedule your big downloads after 00:00 like I said earlier you will probably never be throttled. I still do youtube, movieshd & popcorntime outside of the 00:00-07:00 time as well as the occasional big game downloads towards the end of the month and it's fine. If you look at titracker you only get throttled when you hit the end of 'red' I think. Nothing to worry about.

Oh well no service - Telkom intenet is down - router syncs on ADSL Line, but no PPPoE connection ... since 05:30 that I am aware of ....

Sent an SMS and got one back - shortly saying service had been restored - PPPoE indicator light now flashing every 20 sec or so, but still no PPPoE connection ...

Okay - so seems my D-Link 2750U modem is buggered.

To check the username and password settings - ran setup wizzard, modem seems to be in un set up mode ... , has correct NTP server settings, but no country or sevice provider settings selected - usernsme and password are blank.

Tried 3 times to put in the correct details - fails each time.

On contract, 8 months to go, so I assume I can take it back to Telkom Direct and they will replace it.

Eish! First time I have experienced this since Internet came to SA.

Is it not possible to reset it to factory default by pressing a reset button?

Click the Factory line to restore the factory default settings. Also you can restore the factory
defaults via the Factory button on the System / Configuration page.
Also you can restore the factory default settings via the hardware Reset button located on the
bottom panel of the router. Use a small paperclip to activate the button; insert it into the hole (with
the device turned on), push, and hold for 10 seconds. Release the button and wait until the router is
rebooted (about a minute). Now you can access the web-based interface of the router using the
default IP address, username and password.
When you have configured all needed settings, click the Logout line.

Yes, it is possible, to factory reset it. Last week it lost NTP settings, had to do a hard factory reset, then it downloaded the correct settings from Telkom, this week it is the username and password ... , I am not going to reset my modem once a week because it's firmware has gone wonky ... , so when I get home will put in another router and see if that works, then I take the D-Link to Telkom Direct for a swapout.
