Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Urgh… still down.
Yep, spotted that in my logs this morning. I forgot to disable it yesterday after testing.

Don't know if DtDNS is an option for you but I've only had one outage with them in the past year and that was brief.

I like telkoms because it involves very little user intervention - in fact nothing once it's all set up.

From the DtDNS website:
Up to five hostnames FREE, unlimited hostnames for a one-time $5.00 fee

I don't know if the free option requires the login once a month bullsh*t that No-IP & others require, I went for the $5 one-time offer and it's also setup and forget - real bargain compared with the $19.95/yr I pay No-IP as well (backup - just in case).

Can someone please explain to me why I always get higher ping to EUW League of Legends when playing on Telkom Internet than any other isp. I get 175ms on mweb. Why do I always get above 230ms on Telkom internet.??

FWIW it's working for me. (Cape Town, Meadowridge)

Unfair.

[-]Still down here.[/-]

Back now. I'm not sure if the power failure had anything to do with it…

Can someone working at Telkom Internet or anyone with some experience please answer my question? I just want to know if there is anything I can do in order to improve the latency of Telkom Internet to Euw servers. League of Legends on Mweb i get 175ms. On Telkom Internet I get 230+ms. Why is that so? I don't want to use Mweb as my isp, because their thresholds are too low. With Telkom Internet I don't have to worry about it. We average about 150-200Gb on Telkom Internet per month without any issues. Mweb throttles after 120gb. Both are 4meg uncapped accounts.

There is no official Telkom representation on this forum so you're probably asking in the wrong place if you want a speedy reply. Usually i play rocket league on EU servers and i get about 190ms, things have been bad tonight however where im getting about 290ms.

Thanks, I have subscribed to Mweb's 4meg standard uncapped plus for R339 p/m. It has a threshold of 175Gb which is fine for me.

SuperMario,

Send me traceroutes from both MWeb and Telkom Internet and we can investigate

Hello all,

I tried to upgrade from 10 mb to 20mb now via Telkom call centre. The agent indicated the order is not being accepted by the system because vdsl need to be sold in a package deal at Telkom store.

This does not sound correct. Can anyone shed more light on this please.

Thank you

That does not sound right at all.

I suspect it's a marketing gimmick possibly linked to a 24mth contract with a free modem.

I'm currently busy with a VDSL installation and it's very much a case of "the initial objective was to drain the swamp".

Client on TI 50GB capped requested a simple upgrade to 10Mbps on their existing 2Mbps line and instead were sold VDSL with a new data account (I'm assuming 50GB capped) because "it's only R100 more than you're currently paying".

Both data accounts are currently active and we're now battling to perform the online VDSL Profile activation despite Telkom having shipped 2 modems with different order numbers - such is life

Recently my line wpeed dropped from 12mb to 7.5mb and can hardly access any websites . Always goving me dns errors or sites do not load. Any ideas on what to do. Im on TI 50gb capped

Could this be due to ASSIA?
