Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Why do you think this is not adequate (hint: we don't know what speed service you have).

300ms to the U.S. is normal. Latency had an impact on throughput of TCP connections. So if you're on 2Mbps, this wouldn't be an unexpected result.

It's 10Mbps, and I'm getting 8Mbps to local servers.

A "good" international result:

A normal local result:

There was a power failure about 2 hours ago in our Gauteng site affecting half of our IPC capacity in Gauteng and many other services. We got the IPC restored about an hour later, and the internet speeds ahould have recovered by now. We are still recovering other services.

Hello

I just called the Telkom call centre to ascertain if there was any problems from an exchange side. The assistant said that the exchange server at DALMENY road in Randburg Blairgowrie is down. .

I logged the following fault 469CRK260516

My speedtest shows the following

However, whenever I download any file, whether it be from a browser or a torrent program i get no more than 1Kbps. Help!!

I see no comments from anyone.

What does the ADSL router diagnostics show?
Have you tried to use Zertop's line test tool?

Next would be a trace route to say www.mybroadband.co.za
Then getting more fancy MTR/WINMTR tests ....

Speedtests are all very well, but they do not tell you what is going on.

Would just like to thank Sifiso, didnt get surname, but im sure he is at Kloof depo, did an amazing job in helping me with my problem and my in-game ping is now sitting at < 30ms which is a MASSIVE improvement from > 100ms

thank you

That is great but what did he do and what was wrong?

not sure, tried phoning him on the number i got called from this morning, but no luck

it has been stable now since the 18th

It's working now, would like to know what the fault was naturally but im just happy it's working, and just wanted to send him some gratitude

Getting really terrible speeds in Joburg South. Openweb account is working fine so I'm guessing Telkoms systems are still recovering after the power failure?

All okay from PTA.

Really intrigued by your signature ---- Windows 3.1 and an old machine? Still accurate and working ?

Terrible speeds here in Kzn too

Now it says I've used all my data for the month but I am on uncapped? When I loging to TI Tracker it says I'm NOT a power user and is still blue.... ideas?

Edit: Ranger suggested a simple router reset for a few min, seems to have fixed it, thanks! :D

I thought local went through IPC too.

Packet loss affects throughput much more with higher latency.

(Well, there are two main transmission routes from our Gauteng site; we lost some international capacity too but I didn't see any international links congesting whereas one of the remaining IPC links had been congested for periods during the fibre break).

Yes a good network should be completely invisible .....
BUT ... where is the Telkom rep on this thread? Since Charl left we are now without a Telkom rep?????
