Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Anyone elses internet been down for the past hour in Durbs?

update: Ok, seems some form of update happened. Telkom reset my router, needed to get another password and the SNR margin returned to its previous status that it was 8 months ago. Which, is good. For now. So far, lets hope it stays like this. Okay, so if anyone can't connect to their Telkom ISP, just call and get a new password and setup your router again. Should work.

Reminder: no need to phone to re-set a password if your TI account has your current cellphone number. Use guest@telkomadsl or [email protected] with password guest (or reset ypur modem if you don't have any settings you want to keep), open a browser, and you should find various ways to reset your password.

Thanks ranger, will remember for use in future. However this time I was troubleshooting as there was no notice of a reset that happened, it appeared that my password changed without my consent or notice. So once I noticed that was the only other possibility, we reset it on the phone and bam, working :)

Anybody else having speed issues with Telkom? I am based in Centurion and I am getting 0.59 Mbit/s downloads on a 100Mb fibre line. If I use my Afrihost backup account everything is fine

Testing from Telkom Internet (105.227.87.198)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by CSBT (Pretoria) [2.54 km]: 125.823 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 0.59 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed....................................................................................................
Upload: 17.70 Mbit/s

I can't even login to Netflix, the site does not open on TI, switching to Afrihost and it's fine. Definitely a problem somewhere.

Must be localised - I'm not having any problems here in PE.

FWIW I'm on a 20Mbps vDSL line so you can understand my concerns re fast.com.

Tested with my IDS on LTE the same story, Netflix Dead, YouTube fine.

Some things are slow here, like google, but Netflix is steady.

EDIT: YouTube running at 14mbps though

What happens if you use google dns servers?

Seems to be fixed for me now -

Yip, mine also back to normal. I was in the middle of 'stranger things' when it tanked.

Take your erroneous 2MBPS ArseDSL and shove it Telkom.
Fix this sync rate crap and the constant disconnects already.

Wrong thread, wrong forum section, this is for ISP issues, not line issues.

I'm 99% sure this is an ISP issue. There's no congestion here, we've had this connection for years with little to no issue. There's some new protocol that's incorrectly feeding me bogus sync rates.

For example I just rebooted the router again and now it's gone from 2253 sync to 2927 sync which is still far from ~5120 where it's meant to be but it's a bit better at least.

Since about mid-November the mothership has been feeding my router bogus sync rates though. I can count on my fingers the days I've had full speed.

ISPs can only set the product, and possibly the port profile, and reset the port.

Anything related to you syncing at a lower speed than the product your ISP bought for you, except if they set you on a much lower port profile, is a "line issue" which your ISP can do nothing about.

Eh, ok, fair enough I guess. If it's you saying that I have to accept it.

These new Telkom packages, are they ONLY 24 month contracts or can i do month to month? I understand it would be a little more, but rather have an exit plan if better things come up.
