Telkom internet for employees

You'll get double, if not a hundred times, more than that just in terms of feeling good about not being a part of Telkrap's machinations in ripping-off the consumer...

but... internet... need internet... cant afford... other than dial up...

Mebe if telkom reads this they will offer me a job! :D BAH!

How come when i think of Telkom employee's i always visualise somebody awful? Could it be that we stereotype them as incompetent, drueling masses with rotting flesh trying to rob us blind? I have met a couple techies and i am always glad that they too can smile and be friendly (sometimes) but my stereotypical overview persists. Do i need help?

I think you probably don't need any help. It is true for the most part, but occasionally you do find one that can and (more importantly) WANT to do their job to the best of their ability (this is of course totaly against Tlkom policy, I'm sure). Imagime working under those conditions!

Well

I think the business makes the techie - can't blame them for having to support the firms descisions and then have to deal with the public at the same time... we would all become snotty if we had to do their job... the prob lies not with the poor oke trying to make things work... at least i think not... is the job worth the hate mail, irate customers...

Well i have never met a techie who has anything good to say about Telkom.. imagine working at a company which is always looking for reasons to fire people.

I dont like you saying that, as I have family who worked for them in the past...I never thought of them like that.

To judge someone before you get to know them is one of the worst things a human can do...

As to the topic of this thread...Yes telkom employees do get benefits, but they dont get free stuff. Some rebate and about free analog line rental. One reason we neved had isdn at home, as that wouldnt be free. When I say line rental, I refer to the R80 average you pay per month. I have heard rumours about adsl isp packages for employees, never got a special one. Our line rental now is still free, thats about it almost.

But please, dont think people are incompetant before you get to know them, the company may make some stupid decisions because of some certain people that are incompetant, but that doesnt make each and everyone like that. Its only a few that make the whole company look bad.

Whoops, it might have come across a bit strong...

Well, i have a cousin who works for Telkom. He works his butt off, but he studied very long te be where he is today.

The problem is that those with the qualifications often arent the ones we meet. We always speak to the helpline people who wish us dead, or who mumbles things under their breath at you, or who just redirects you to someone else ever 2 minutes. Some techies are friendly and VERY clued up, but i had to contend with many techies who had NO clue what to do and got mad at ME cause they couldnt find Telkom's line on my property.

It's this bad exposure that most of us has had that makes me afraid to talk to ANY Telkom employee. The bad apples make the good ones look rotten as well. I did not mean to offend anybody (my cousin can kick my butt later) but surely most of you have had experiences were talking to Telkom is like talking to a pet or a brick wall or lawn furniture. I applaud the friendly clued up techies for putting up with angry Telkom clients all day and STILL have the capacity to smile for me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there any way for the public to find out if there are positions available at Telkom? Are there plans for employing more people with the prospect of competition just around the corner? With telecom prices being what they are, i am willing to take the punch and work for somebody that will supply me with the telecom services i want and need.

Why is tibby.dude so quiet these days??

Maybe he started his own forum : www.imfullofcrap.co.za/vb

Anyways
Let's dig deeper into this topic. What about employees that work for other companies like MWEB, IS, UUNET etc. ? What benefits do they get? I wouldn't mind paying R450 just for my TELKOM ADSL line(384k/128k) and get a free uncapped, unshaped ADSL account from my employer?

I know a guy who knows a guy who works for Mweb... apparently they get free internet access on dialup... not sure about adsl accounts, but I'm sure they get at least a discount... not that it matters... they still get the horrific Telkom bill like everyone else.

And that's probs just so that they can resolve issues if they arise in the middle of the night .... :)

this post got way sidetracked .....
