So I recently got a extra line installed and had to take a simple package to get free installation. It came with the 20GB softcap acoount. Its not badly price considering it runs at whatever speed your line is. The latency is not too bad and looks like they actually made "night surfer promo" permanent.

R149 - whatever discount for do broadband give 20GB data and unlimited 00:00 to 06:00am data.

So I'm wondering if its even worth it to keep this account but it was performing very well in gaming and @ +-R115 [R149 - discount] I already have my vox fat pipe on my first line and it works well.

Anyone actively downloading stuff in night surfer time? Is the usage being calculated accurately? :)

Also with the email from Telkom Internet which say that softcap package takes priority. Which means it take priority over uncapped users?

"Lastly, it should be noted that:

· Telkom's network prioritises SoftCap packages."

Dunno what your line speed is but between 00:00-06:00 you can do some serious downloading with zero impact on your usage figures.

Got a 10Mbps line. So downloaded what I wanted for 12GB between 00:00 and 06:00 and it was maxing my 10Mbps line @ 1MB/s download speed. Pretty cool. Looks like I might just keep this account with my vox fatpipe + uncapped bolt on. I don't want to abuse the fatpipe+bolt on so I would just download my stuff between 00:00 and 06:00 on my Telkom softcap account.

Must say its a solid performer. Great ping during peak times with full speed unlimited download between 00:00 and 06:00 its a pretty good deal if you ask me. Pretty cool they made it permanent too.

Yeah it's a great deal. If I used a bit less bandwidth during the day I would have signed up for it.

Yeah I'm at work during the day. Even if I'm at home I just use the Vox account. I guess its a nice account to download with :)

I took out the 10gb softcap also for the installation, according to them it's a month to month contract but you have to keep it for 2 months. Once I reached my 10gb cap (3rd day after downloading some movies) it's pretty much unusable. Whatsapp messages don't even get delivered.

Pretty impressed with account for my first month. Was considering cancelling it but now I think I might just keep it. The 20GB softcap account is pretty decent. It gives very good latency in League Of Legends in fact its lower than my Vox fat pipe account. The 'night surfer' times that will increase 1 hour from September will also be pretty nice. The free social media data also saved me half a gig the very few times I used this account.

The performance of it is actually the best from all the accounts I tested. Running it on a 10Mbps line its a real contender when you looking for a decent capped account. I would really like Telkom to show the actual amount used and left under the percentage bar.

Data usage of just like 3 or 4 days I actually used the account for some downloads.

I've got the 50GB softcap package.

Has Telkom actually updated their systems regarding the extra 1 hour Night Surfer. I have my doubts. I don't have any proof, but my daytime usage seems a bit high. I've used 15% in three days, whereas I use about 40% for the whole month, last month.

Telkom softcap been bugging out completely the past two days.

Anyone else see this? Cape Town.

I actually find the softcap account better for international gaming than my vox account. I have not noticed anything strange though.

Am I correct in assuming, that if I upgrade my line from 2MB to 4MB and sign up for the 10GB softcap package, I will be able to download as much as I like at 4MB speeds between midnight and 6AM?

And are torrents or NZBs shaped during midnight and 6AM?

Yes, you will get full line speed as long as you do not get softcapped.

No, no shaping. (and it is until 7am).

Does this apply to uncapped as well? We are experiencing lower speeds on the torrent side until after 1:30AM or so. From half speed. Downloads are not completing as they usually do and we're advised to use NZB's instead, which is inconvenient.

Great. I don't plan on using the 10GB at all really. Just to surf now and then and do some internet banking. Will be surprised if I even use 1GB.

You should be able to do around 300GB a month in night surfer time on 4Mb/s.

May I ask, is the data calculations done fairly accurately. Don't want to download on my first night and discover the next day, the data was incorrectly allocated to my normal data amount.

For me its been pretty accurate with no need to disconnect the current session. I have 13Mbps line and between 00:00 and 7am its flying with downloads @ 1.3MB/s no problem.
