Someone sent an SMS to my Telkom line from a mobile phone. The Telkom phone rang with a computerised woman's voice informing me that I received an SMS from such and such number, whereafter the call was promptly ended. Hello? I was under the impression that an SMS was "read" to the recipient but this did not happen in my case. How does one retrieve this type of "SMS"?

I decide to ring Telkom for an answer to my question... and this is the 1st problem: which number to dial. There is only one remotely related to my query and that is the fault reporting number, 10212.

The phone was answered fairly quickly, but the moment they noticed I had an ADSL line, I was told that they could not deal with queries on my line, and they put me through to the ADSL help line where nobody anwers (seems like they have one person working in that call centre). Second problem.

I then rang 10212 back, requesting not to be put through to ADSL help line or to be put on hold as I was cut off the previous time I was put on hold. The person could not help me. I'm not even sure they understood my problem. My wife continued with the call as I had to leave home. Eventually someone came on the line describing in detail how to retrieve voice mail, not an SMS.

Phew, what an incompetent bunch of people!!! Working in customer support and not being able to understand a simple little problem is difficult for me to accept!

We still have the computer voice phoning us every two hours or so reminding us that we have an SMS waiting. Is there perhaps any person out there whom had the same experience and whom would be able to tell me how to delete this message?

Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry have no idea, never heard of a sms being stored. Is that possible? Normally it only reads the sms and the ends the calls. I thought when you heard nothing, it could have been a blank sms being sent.

No option after the sms messages is finished?

No options are given after the sender's details - call is simply terminated.

Pull the telephone plug out of the wall for a minute. Maybe it will reset?:D

you'd probably have better luck calling the cellphone network the sms is coming from. the sms is unlikely to be stored on telkom's network.

The same just happened to my phone......10212 is now 10210 then option 1 then option 1 again and then option 3......lady that answered was very helpfull, understood what I was asking, checked the system, but unfortunately could not help me with what the message was. This may sound stupid but , I think maybe this has something to do with the fact that we had an Eskom electricity technical fault (electricity was switched off for about 10 minutes) and maybe the phones reset or something like that...don't know I'm not actually a technical person...just taking a guess. The sms message was sent from number 082 90 40 789 = Bulk SMS dot com......I phoned the number and answering services states that queries may be sent to [email protected].......

I did not know Telkom had a license to do this!

Someone call the traffic department.

There is a command to delete the message ..sorry forget what the command is had the same shyt before ( was something like #123#)
