"Telkom is killing itself"

Telkom has begun engaging with unions over its planned retrenchments, with the company planning to cut 3,000 employees in the first phase.

The Information Communication Technology Union (ICTU) has condemned the company's unilateral implementation of retrenchments, adding that the company has been slowly killing itself with its "hopeless" business strategy.

Why won't they though, they haven't gotten their share of government bailout money yet.

They should call the suicide hotline wonder if it will come from the Telkom to Telkom minutes

Lol!!! Between SAA, Eksdom, Prasa and Telkom must be thousands upon thousands of bloated staff - seriously wondering what the unemployment rate is gonna look like if they actually go ahead and do what needs to be done.
SAA alone sitting with 16000 unnecessary staff - 16000 taxpayers to 16000 social grant dependents.

"..unliteral.." ??

Retrenching copper focused employees, but the unions are complaining that Telkom didn't expedite Fibre and Mobile?!?!? Am I missing something here?

Yawn ... this will all be over within 2 years ... Can't exactly call yourself a Telecoms company with ZERO subscribers.

Cutting existing copper line voice and ADSL customers... Real good strategy there. And when they realise they screwed up, just do the NANANANANANACANTHEARYOU thing.

Actually, telkom due to it being semi privatized is the only one of those companies that has been shedding stuff successfully as the tech made less and less staff necessary:

This is just more of the same thing that Telkom has been doing for years and is the main reason Telkom occasionally shows a profit. They are not losing money due to headcount held on for years and years, they are losing money due to losing customers and that relates to service levels, and how they treat people etc. I wish PRASA, Eskom, SAA and the rest could follow telkom's example and cut the dead wood. Its the main thing needed to turn it all around financially.

Shame really, because their price model was super affordable and value for money, something Vodascum and Mtcrappyn couldnt give a fig about.

Unions still clueless as usual. They are the number one reason for the bloating in this country so should rather just f.o.a.d.

LOL they still have millions of customers and if you look at everyone on here salivating for their "Big Deal" people aren't in a hurry to leave them.
