Hi Guys!
My ISP unfortunately still is Telkom (soon to be Cell C I hope).
For the past week I have been blocked bt this website www.yamahasupertenere.com with the reason that my IP was regarded as a spamming computer.
Now this stuff is all new to me, as I know VERY little about networks, never mind spam..
Below is the email the guy from the website sent me after I enquired:

Subject: RE: YamahaSuperTenere.com

I can see why you're getting blocked, there is a crazy amount
of robot attacks coming from your subnet, and the filter is blocking you
because of it. Where are you located?

Unfortunately I can't open just you up, the software won't let me. But,
when you go to the forum and it sends you to the spam page, there should
be a question on the page like "what is 1 + 1?" Answer the questions (it
will probably ask more than one) and you'll be let in. I know it's a pain
but it's the best I can do right now.

Any comments? Is Telkom as criminal as they are uncompetitive and lazy?

No, your computer is malware infected and the criminal.

What Antivirus are you using?

Get this: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html Download, Update Database and run a full Scan.

Same with this: http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro-3-32-bit/3000-2239_4-10895604.html Activate the 30 Day Trial to remove the malware found.

Get Trend Rubotted to remove any Botnets http://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&so...5NHyBw&usg=AFQjCNEKDV-4BFic5nHnUz6hQVD-yPmHpA

Install MS Security Essentials once everything above is done. Remove any other Antivirus you have, it's clearly not working.

In my opinion AVG sucks, but each to their own :p I still suggest you install MS Security Essentials after doing the removal of the nasties.

will definitely install MS Security Essentials - Thanks!

Switch your Router off for 10 minutes after you've seen everything is clean. You should get a new IP Address then.

I ran a full scan with AVG and then installed MS Security Essentials, switched modem off for a while, rebooted laptop and what do you know, I can again access the problem website - Great!

Thanks again teraside!

Just remember, you can't run two Antivirus programs, so you have to choose between AVG or MS. ;) :D :p

Pleasure bro

Antivirus and antspyware aren't the same thing, you can run avg fine and not have any viruses but if your not doing regular antispyware scans you'll have these problems

yes, I read that and dumped AVG before installing MS sec ess

That's why I suggested Security Essentials, it's actually better with antimalware\spyware\adware than virusses in general.

lol install ms, pretty junk, i work pcs everyday of my live, half my job is to virus removals sadly.

First off if you run xp, format put win7 on, you probably get less viruses.

Then clean your pc with combofix, if you get error it cant run because you have win32 virut, then first download win 32 virut removal.

Then after that you should almost be clean, download avast 5, register for free for year and , and scan again, should remove all them or nearly.

:erm: I would not recommend people to take their PCs to you....

It must all be removed or it's not good enough. Nearly does not cut it!

Also I hope you are not forcing everyone to buy W7. Some people have legit software, why should they change it?

Frankly I'd rather run MSSE(free with legal Windows) or NOD32 (paid for product) than Avast...

nearly with him with not to much time, when i do its done correct. most okes wont even try to remove brontok or something worse they just suggest a format :/

indeed not its better security, he can think of good investment.

i run avast version 5, its free and do great job was also number 2 listed in mybb list if i remember.

payed antivirus nod32 is one of the best, but hey can use that money to add more ram or something :P

Have you ever removed a drive & scanned it in another machine?

Formatting is the last option. & even then you need to backup the client's data first. That data too must be cleaned. Or are you one of those techies that say ''sorry we had to format to clear the problem & now all your data is gone''. Or better yet you don't say anything & let the client see their data-less PC at home?

I retail NOD32 & any client that wants me to sell them anything else must convince me why they really want that other product. There are also 2 year licences that is more cost effective in the long term.

In my experience :

1. firewalling will keep some nasties out
2. Antivirus will also keep some nasties out
3. But the majority of attack vectors come from web browsing.

Point in case - last week I tried to deliberately infect a Windows98 PC - and a Win2k PC as well - (not a virtual PC) by connecting it directly to the Internet without antivirus and firewalling.

I failed.

Seems that the router in use blocks most common attacks. (This was proven by the use of nmap).

My conclusion? It is your web browsing habits that'll let in nasties on your PC.

How many people especially older folk click on the first link when they are searching for something or open dodge emails?
Those are the people that generally need others to help them clear problems.

By now I doubt new virusses are created directly for those old systems as not many people run those anymore. The hackers want to hit where it can hurt most people...
