When I first signed up for ADSL and a Telkom internet account, I received a letter from them with their slogan at the bottom: "Your ISP for life".

Today I realize what that means. You can't get out. I got a new internet account and want to stop my 3Gig telkom internet. We phoned for many hours and days on end and one incompetent help desk operator after another wasted our time.

At long last "Liezel" told us to send a fax with the request to some number (IN DURBAN -- I am in Pta) at the the "Discontinuance dept". Now the fax is somewhere at Telkom and nobody is doing something. It is totally impossible to find out if they got the fax. It is hopeless... I cant stop my telkom internet.

Telkom is becoming my ISP for life.

Typical!!

It's actually a clever strategy on their part!

If its an 'error' which is working in their favour, then opereate on the idea that its deliberate. Send faxes all over the place - perhaps go into your local 'customer care' branch and hand them a copy of the cancellation, so that they file and forward it. Get the name of the person at the counter as well. If they won't accept it, then make your problem their problem and politely get them to find out who to speak with, higher up the food chain..

Ha ha ha ha.
thats Hilarious.
the conformation no is 031 363 3788. But I doubt that you will get thru to them.:p

aparently u should first fax 031 363 2622 ur cancellation etc
and then phone 031 363 3788 to enquire if they have received info on that!!!

i hope it helps!!! or u could just speak to telkom accounts!! - 10210

but will also be "UNaccountable" aswell

If you want to cancel your ADSL (the line) you have to fax through a letter stating "blah blah service sux". But if you want to cancel you're 3gig account or whichever you have you just have to phone in, they will do it immediately. I cancelled mine on the 1st they tried to charge me for a whole month, I just got pissed & tuned them & it went down without a hitch. Make sure they know what exactly you want to cancel, they're like monkeys with a phone.

Yeah, I had the same thing... I just gave them a call and they cancelled it.

It was a bit of a mission because I got my account with them pretty much the first month they annunced ADSL in SA, and aparently they have changed the way they do internet accounts since then or something. But even given that, it only took about 20 mins.

I just phoned either (no sure which one) 10217 or 0800 500 200 and cancelled over the phone. I could not believe it when on my next bill i had a credit from the date i cancelled. They can not give you a referance number but make sure you get the name and surname of who ever you deal with. Good luck.

Thanks all for the info. The idiots told me I HAVE to fax etc. Specifically for the internet account, even though I do not want to stop my line.

I am holding on now for 30 minutes? How much longer should I hold on? Any suggestions? The orc told me she will explain to someone what I want to do.

Use this number

0800500200

I cancelled my telkom internet adsl account in about 5 minutes with that number. it was surprisingly quick and painless.
