Telkom just shocked me!!!!

I doubt that Telkom's service is better than many smaller ISP's... just the fact that there is any service whatsoever is a bl00di miracle.
Telkom is not all bad  Nothing better than phoning them at 3am in the morning - and getting helpful service...

but nothing makes up for their overall business practise - and the damage they are doing to me and the sa economy... never mind all the isp's who may as well pack up and go home

Im also quite pleased with them for a change .. we moved to stanger recently .. about 20k's out of town in the middle of nowhere , i wasnt overly optimistic about my line .. WELL they installed my line the 2nd day after we moved in , I get constant speeds of 50 ( in durbs i was only getting 48) and i have no disconnections , we have twice been visited by a supervisor to make sure everything is in order.

It really depends on individual branch management ..in Stangers case they are fantastic.

I agree with IC!
Get a Yahoo e-mail or another more permanent service and then you can change ISP as many times as you want. No contract! will keep them ISP's on their toes!

That's so true, I deal with a guy at my local Telkom direct, he usually makes sure things happen as quickly as possible. He was also kind enough to give me the Techie's cell number who was to do my line installation and the dispatch number for the technical department.

(he also recomended to his clients the they buy routers and ISP accounts from us instead of signing a contract, or going with TelkomSA but Telkom doesn't need to know that.

Something else that's quite strange is that the last 4 times I have phones 1023 for a number (when I'm away from my trusty PC), they have answered before I have had to hear that hold music I love to hate.

I think they are trying to become "customer-centric", but still feel it's too little too late. You can't cover up extortionistic (if that is, indeed, a word) prices with "good" service. It just doesn't cut it.
