Hi guys,

I just thought that I would share my recent experience with telkom.
I had moved house and asked to have my line transferred together with my adsl, but since it was in a different exchange, etc. they required me to pay a new installation fee for adsl, so I requested a self-install and just a tranfer of the normal phone line as that is apparently free. Anyways, its been like 2 months and a telkom techie phones me up and says that he is at my door to install the line, so I say I am at work ... anyways we agree for him to come on saturday. So I buy an ISP account expecting my line to be installed.
He comes over on saturday and says that he will not put the line in the house as that is someone elses job, he will only do some s*** on the pole. This pissed me off, but I remained calm. So I phone telskum on monday to see whats happening and they say wait till thursday, which really pissed me off, but what choice do I have?
Anyways Thursday comes and goes and still nothing... and I have been phoning any number I can get my hands on but no one can help. So now I have no line, an ISP account which I can't use, and no clue as to when my line will be installed.
I have to say .... this is what I call CUSTOMER CENTRICITY(*sarcasm*)
:(

Dude, I've been waiting since 12 April for a simple speed upgrade on an existing line... keep getting told to wait 24-48hrs, and nothing happens...!

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Doc

Same problem just a simple reinstalation. Date was booked for 2nd May. Come the 2nd and the telkom guy tells me sorry they reinstaled the line to the same house it was removed from. His answer sorry nothing i can do wait for a new date. Ive been phoning telkom each day and each day same answer "we waiting for the instalation department's new date".
6 Weeks and counting

bugger ... I hope I don't have to wait that long ... saw a post on another thread about numbers to call at telskum and managed to get a manager to call me back ... maybe u can do the same .... will give u the number if the guy actually proves useful .... but I am already impressed ... as he actually called back :)

I placed an order in Feb to get an ADSL line installed.
After harrsing them non stop I finally got them to send a request through to
the department that is supposed to assign a port to my account. (The request was sent on 10 April 2006).
They still haven't assigned a port to my account!

Okay, Ive got the simple solution.
Give me your account details and you will know that your account is not going to waste, and will have the peace of mind that allows you to deal with Telkom is a quite restrained manner.

You will be making a child happy, seriously.

When dealing with Telkom i find that hanging up and asking the dog for advice, as he seems to be just that little bit smarter than the people at the end of the line.

I ordered ADSL in January..... I'm still waiting. Phone them every day and and get a different reason/excuse every time. the port story, the techie story, the strike story, the order department.... I'm so sick of it, it's disgusting how useless they are! I will be moving in a month so now I have to start all over again......

sorry friggs .... but a consolation is that if you moving in the same area then its not that bad(i think).
but if u moving some place else .... then u got a long wait :(

What a familiar sounding story! Was told installation date was 25th of March - that has come and gone. Daily calls are always met with a "it has been escalated" reply and that is the size of it.

Got through to a nice person at CPC control in Pretoria but am still waiting for a reply from her about what has happened. Interestingly, she is the same person that gave me the original date as well as the revised date (both have come and gone a long time ago)

Good luck!

I am definitely going to need it ... I spoke to 2 managers so far ... and both said they will look into it and get back to me.... that was last week ... still waiting

Its a fact that Telkom lie when they say they're going to "get back to you" :/ I ordered my ADSL line in mid-Feb and got it installed last week. Originally they slated me for 29 May, so maybe im actually "lucky"... at least in this country's terms of service i am... which is quite sad.

Heh. Placed my order on the 27th of Feb. They stuffed it up somehow, and never bothered to let me know. I found out about this on the 15th of March. Had to re-place the order. I'm still waiting. Phoning every day or every second day, as I get time. The last five people I spoke to told me they would get back to me. No one ever has. And then I asked the last person I spoke to why nobody was getting back to me, and she told me that actually, they're not allowed to phone clients back. *sigh*, so they're all telling me they will phone me back, knowing full well that they never will.
Anyway, I first got the no ports thing, then last month they told me an order went in on the 9th of April to upgrade the exchange and that it would take two weeks. Hooray! Well, I'm still waiting. The exchange is still being upgraded 5 weeks later, and nobody knows anything. I've phoned every number I can find, and so far, no joy.
And of course, inbetween it all, I have one of my friends bragging about his free upgrade to an 8mbit uncapped line in Holland, for a 10 euro/month reduction. So now he's only paying 29 euros pre month. For a line 8 times faster than Telkom's fastest, with no caps or shaping. And here's poor little frstrated me just trying to get a 192k line.
Oh well. The joys of Telkom.

Hmm, received a phone call earlier today from CPC Control in Pretoria. Apparently they have installed everything *ages* ago (although no-one is sure when that actually happened). This is after daily calls to the installation helpdesk and so on and no-one hase a clue what happened.

So, this will be call number two that it has been installed. Should we take bets on the fact that it has actually been installed *this* time or will I be phoning them again tomorrow morning?

Guess what! I am not holding my breath ...
